She was the loving mother of Shirley McConnell and Gerry McConnell (Lucille) of Niagara Falls, Glen McConnell (Christine) of Callander, Roy McConnell (Mary) of Callander, Cheryl Storie (Sam Peragine) of Niagara Falls and grandmother of 27 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. As a child, Ann walked to school at the corner of Sunset Cove Road and Highway 534.
She met Mel McConnell at a social and the two were married on August 12, 1938 in North Bay. Ann and Mel made their home wherever Mel could find work, including Parry Sound, Sarnia, Powassan, Timmins and 17 years in Niagara Falls, before moving to Callander in 1968.
Three of their children, Ross, Gerry and Shirley stayed in Niagara Falls, while Glen, Roy and Cheryl grew up in Callander.
Ann was a natural mother and homemaker. She loved sewing and baking, often producing up to 60 loaves of bread at at time to sell.
Ann had a special interest in music, particularly country Gospel.
Following Mel's death on November 15, 1990, Ann continued to live on her own. Although Glen and Roy kept a close eye on their mother , after a bout in the hospital and the onset of failing health, it was decided that Ann should move to Niagara Falls to live with Cheryl.
She was very comfortable in her new home, bonding completely with her home care nurse. Despite four years of shingles and almost constant pain, Ann continued to do her dishes and clean her house (something she was very particular about!). She loved the climate of the Niagara area and delighted in the plants and fruit trees in the backyard.
Even through the roughest times of her illness, Ann continued to make people laugh with jokes and pranks. Her sunny personality and sense of humour helped her through the pain.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Paul Funeral Home, Powassan.
