ATH/WAYLAND - Lois A. Clark, 84, passed away peacefully, Saturday, (March 21, 2015) at the Steuben Center in Bath.
Lois was born Jan. 15, 1931 in Wayland, a daughter of Francis and Mary (Lyon) Wilson. She married Leland Clark on May 13, 1952; he predeceased her on March 19, 2013. Lois was a former assembly worker at Westinghouse in Bath. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her sister, Marion Batchler and a niece, Shirley Clark.
Lois was a former member of the Wayland American Legion Post Women's Auxiliary
Lois enjoyed baking, traveling, being a snowbird to Kissimmee, Fla., and mowing her lawn, but most of all she loved spending time with her husband and family.
She is survived by her sister, Ruth Smith; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Mary Clark, Emily and Dewey Clark, Beatrice Beamish, Lydia Hagadone, Mary and Art Clark; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may call from 2-4 p.m., Wednesday, at the Walter E. Baird & Sons Funeral Home, 300 West Naples St., Wayland, where funeral services will be held at 4 p.m.

Attorney, Once Editor of Champion, Died of Heart Attack
Funeral services Monday morning at the Methodist church paid tribute to Ralph C. Homan, widely known resident of this community for 40 years, who died at his home early last Friday morning of a heart attack. Attempt of the fire department resuscitator squad to revive him was futile.
Mr. Homan was born in Harlan, Smith county, Kansas, and came to Chino in 1901 to enter the mercantile business with his father, R. S. Homan, in the building now occupied by the Steen cafe. He also operated the first electric light system in this city.
In 1904, he was married to Miss Alma Moore of Chino and to this union were born a son and daughter, Dr. Clifton B. Homan of Monrovia and Mrs. Marjorie Homan Thompson of Los Angeles. Five years later he purchased the Chino Champion from John M. Reed, the first issue under his editorship being on June 4, 1909. He continued as a partner in the mercantile business for some time thereafter.
While engaged in publishing this newspaper, Mr. Homan took up the study of law and was admitted to the bar on October 6, 1916. He also was active in the formation of the Chino Building and Loan association, serving as its secretary and as president for several years. Growth of his law practice caused him to dispose of the newspaper to Elmer L. Howell Sr., who took control in June, 1920.
During his residence in Chino, Mr. Homan took part in many community activities. He was a member of the Methodist church and served that denomination in various capacities. He was also a member of the F. & A. M., Order of Eastern Star, and Knights of Pythias lodges, being a past master of the former and of the Chino Rotary club, of which he was junior past president.
In civic work, Mr. Homan served as justice of peace, city attorney and member of the board of school trustees and was one of the organizers of the Chino Basin Water Protective association.
He was born on July 6, 1880, and grew to manhood in his native state of Kansas, where he attended the public schools and went on to higher education at Kansas State normal, teaching school after graduation for two years.
Afflicted for many years with asthma, it was this which caused failing health and forced him, at times, to seek relief at desert points. A recent visit to Twenty-Nine Palms, his favorite place of recuperation, failed to give him the relief sought and decline in health was rapid during the last few weeks.
Surviving besides his widow and two children, are four sisters, Mrs. Bert R. Moody and Mrs. Millage V. Ingram of Chino, Mrs. H. C. Daniels of Huntington Park and Mrs. Ray L. Croskey (sic) of Iowa; two brothers, Edward L. Homan of San Bernardino and Fred S. Homan of South Gate.

ATWOOD (Rockford) - Mr. Clifford Atwood, age 79, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 4, 2003. Cliff was a member of Rockford Baptist Church, where he accepted Christ as his Savior in the early 60's and served there as Elder, Deacon, and an Awana Leader. For 13 years he worked for the Grand Rapids Police Department. Following retirement from the department, he bought the Sunoco Station at Fremont and Division Streets in Rockford and ran that from 1963-1976. For a while he ran the station and also worked for the Kent County Sheriff's Department, retiring from the department as Sgt in charge of road patrol. Cliff was a perfectionist when working with wood products and enjoyed remodeling and repair work. He was also an avid hunter, camper and fisherman. His family remembers Cliff modeling his life by Ephesians 5: 25. He is survived by his wife, Lillian (Dunn), who was his high school sweetheart and married her on June 21, 1944. Also surviving are his children, Dennis and Robin Atwood of Greenville, Gary and Nida Atwood of Rockford, Kathy and Ed Payton of Morley, Tim and Toni Atwood of Pierson and Doug and Sue Atwood of Howard City; 15 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; sister, Mrs. Byrdie Sarkees of Grand Rapids; sister- in-law, Mrs. Grace Atwood of Grand Rapids; nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death was his daughter, Terrill Louise Atwood, grandchildren, Timothy Dale Atwood, Anthony Roy Atwood and Dennis Michael Atwood, his parents and his step-mother, Mrs. Millie Atwood. The service of Praise and Thanksgiving to God for the Salvation provided through Jesus Christ for Cliff will be Monday morning at 10:30 o'clock at Rockford Baptist Church with Pastor Larry Rowland officiating. Interment in Rockford Cemetery. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Rockford Baptist Church, Michigan SIDS Alliance or the Rockford Historical Museum. Audrey A. Morrow, age 81, of Bath, NY died September 28, 2011 in Mesa, AZ. She was born July 15, 1930 in Rochester, NY. Audrey retired as Deputy Town Clerk of Bath and had worked prior to the town as Bath Village Clerk and Treasurer. She was a lifetime resident of Bath, NY. Audrey was a member of the Bath Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Fay Morrow of Bath; sister, Joyce (Stanley) Trusievitz of Bath, NY; several nieces and nephews; 11 great nieces and nephews; and five great great nieces and nephews.

Ava M. Poole, died October 23, 2016 in Wichita, Kansas. Ava was born November 4, 1919, and led a long, happy life as wife, mother, grandmother, great and great-great-grandmother. Her parents were William and Stella Lambert of Hopeton, Oklahoma. She was educated in a one room country school where eight grades were taught. (Years later both of her children attended the same school). Ava attended high school and college at Northwestern State College in Alva, Oklahoma. She met her future husband, Ray F. Poole, and was married December 5, 1937 for 57 years. They raised two children on the family farm. Ava worked for Boeing and later at the American Red Cross. Her hobbies included shell crafts, music, traveling, reading, knitting, writing, square dancing, crossword puzzles and picture albums. When Ray, her husband, retired, they bought a 32 ft. Jayco trailer and started traveling, spending 8 winters in Florida on Sanibel Island. They traveled extensively from Vancouver, Canada to their favorite place in Florida. They were blessed with 3 children. The first child died at birth; Beverly Kastens, who taught gifted children at Goddard; son, Douglas Poole, who retired from Andritz KMPT, Inc., Florence, KY. Survivors include children, Beverly (Gary) Kastens; Douglas (Wanda) Poole; grandchildren, Kelly Waters, Cyndi Miller, Terrie (Kent) Applewhite, Ray E. (Kim) Poole; great-grandchildren, Ashley, Tiffany, Zach, Sarah (Ryan), Rachel (Jared), Melissa (Marcus), James (Sarah), Jason (family). Ava is survived by many nieces, nephews, great and great-great-grandchildren. She lived at Presbyterian Manor for 4 ½ years. Then she moved to Via Christi Cornerstone for 3 years. Preceding Ava in death were her parents, Stella and William Lambert; 2 sisters, Fern Lambert Nusz (Jake), Alfreda Lambert Vail (Clem), and brother, Clifford (Lorena) Lambert. Avis (Cavagnaro) Varni, 75, of East Hartford, beloved wife of Stephen A. Varni, Sr., died Sunday (November 11, 2001) in Manchester Memorial Hospital.
Avis was born in Hartford on June 25, 1926, daughter of the late Alfred and Elizabeth (Banning) Cavagnaro, and was a resident of East Hartford most of her life. She was a member of Burnside United Methodist Church, East Hartford.
Besides her husband of 52 years, Avis is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Stephen Jr. and Darlene Varni of Stafford; a daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Steve Matthews of East Hartford; two grandsons, Steve Jr. and Christopher, both of East Hartford; a sister and brother-in-law, Marion and Leo Cordier of East Hartford; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Robert and Betty Varni of Glastonbury; special friends, Donald "Buzz" and Vicki Brozowsky of East Hartford; several nieces and nephews.
A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held in the chapel of Newkirk & Whitney Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Avenue, East Hartford, on Thursday morning at 10 a.m., with Pastor Joyce Whetstone of Burnside United Methodist Church, East Hartford, officiating. AYERST Jane Byrd Ruffin Ayerst, age 75, died on March 12, 2008 after a brief battle with cancer. She was born on May 11, 1932 in Durham, NC. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Julian Meade Ruffin and Lucy Landon Noland Ruffin of Durham NC, her husband, Dr. Robert Irvin Ayerst of New Orleans, LA and her sister, Lucy Ruffin Sprague of Tenafly, NJ. She is survived by her children Robert Irvin Ayerst, Jr. of Germantown, TN, Elizabeth Ayerst Alquist of Metairie, LA, her sister Judith Ruffin Anderson of Winchester, VA, and four grandchildren, Amanda Ayerst, Allan Farber, Tim Farber and Allison Ayerst. She was a graduate of Chatham Hall Prep School in Chatham, VA and Duke University where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. She was a resident of New Orleans and a member of Trinity Church since 1958. She served on the board of the Symphony Volunteers and was a long time supporter of the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra. She was Chairman of the Symphony Book Fair in 1973 and a volunteer for this organization for almost forty years. In 1990, she received the Longue Vue Volunteer of the Year Award where she was a volunteer docent for over twenty years. In addition, she served on the board of the Longue Vue House & Gardens and worked with the Curator of the Collection. Visitation will be at Trinity Church at 4 PM on Friday, March 14 followed by a memorial service at 5 PM in the sanctuary. He was preceded in death by his father, Albert Douglas Ayerst in 1983 and his brother, Steve Ayerst in 1984. He is survived by his mother Betty Ayerst, of Atlantic Beach; two sisters, Cindy Berry, of Jacksonville Beach and Diane Weldon of Tallahassee, Fla.; and the love of his life Paula Gatlin, of Neptune Beach. Baby Perry - Orville J. Perry, infant child of the late Mrs. Hiram L. Perry, died at the home of the child's uncle, Frank Samis, Monday morning of bronchial pneumonia. The infant was born Dec. 6, 1916, and lost its mother by death 11 days later. The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon, which made the third funeral from this home in three months. The other funerals were those of Mrs. A.M. Bregg and Mrs. Hiram L. Perry.

He served in the Air Force and graduated from Fullerton Junior College. A life long resident of southern California and a devoted and loving father, Cecil worked for 35 years as a chief purchasing agent for Stoody Company. Cecil is survived by his brother James D. BAIRD ? The death occurred at the Kirkland and District Hospital Tuesday October 2 1984 of Mr. William James Elmer Baird 858 Government Road West, Chaput Hughes at the age of 75 years. Born at Westmeath he had been a Kirkland Lake resident for the past 40 years, past president of the Chaput Hughes Lions Club, Northland Fastball Association from 1964-66, and Kirkland Lake Curling Club, he was also a life member of the N. F. A. and an associate member of Branch 87 Royal Canadian Legion. He is survived by his wife Mildred (nee Doyle) at home, his son Dale and wife Donna of Peterborough, brother Harvey of Carleton Place, and two grandchildren Todd and Mark. Resting at the Symington and Monette Funeral Home Wednesday October 3 1984 from 2-4 and 7-9 until the time of the service in the Chapel Thursday at 11 a.m. Rev. David Bould officiating. Baird, Mildred Katherine (Millie) ? the family announces with sorrow the death of Mildred Katherine Baird on March 4 2009 at the age of 92. Beloved wife of the late Elmer Baird, loving mother of Dale Tafford (Donna), grandmother to Mark Tafford (Sara), and predeceased by her beloved grandson Todd. Millie leaves five great grandchildren, Rachel, Tracy May, Taylor, Brooke and Sheldon. She is predeceased by her parents Paddy and Mildred Doyle, brother Malcolm and Patrick and sister Lottie. She leaves sister-in-law Doreen Doyle, cousin Judy Veinot and many nieces and nephews. Millie was the Manager of the Credit Bureau for 40 years and a Town councillor for 20 years. She belonged to the Women?s Business and Professional Club and the Kirkland Lake Curling Club. The Tafford family will welcome friends at the Trinity United Church on Duncan Avenue at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday March 7 2009 with a reception following. BAKER I, ERNEST ROBERT
Ernie was born June 12, 1929 in Oshtemo, Michigan to LaVern and Ettie Mae (McLain) Baker. In 1958, he married Bernice Blades and together they had a family of four children. Ernie lived in Kalamazoo area, served in the U.S. Army and retired after 40 years with the NY Central Railroad, where he worked as a foreman. In 2003, Ernie achieved lifetime status of the Fidelity Masonic Lodge #513 where he was "Past Master." He loved the Lord and his family and he moved to California to be near his youngest son. On September 20, 2012, he passed away at the Jerry Petits Veterans Hospital, in CA. He is survived by one daughter, Linda Wehner, two sons, William Miner II and Ernie Baker II, many grandchildren, great grandchildren, four brothers, two sisters, many nieces and nephews. He was known for his warm smile,gentle spirit and generosity.

Bakersfield men plead not guilty in Idaho kidnapping, slaying

Two Bakersfield men accused in the April slaying of a Meridian, Idaho, man say they are not guilty of first-degree murder and kidnapping, the Associated Press has reported.
Prosecutors in Ada County, Idaho have accused John Joseph Green, 28, and Stanley Hahn, 44, both of Bakersfield, of killing Doug Halpin, 44, as they beat and tied him up during an April 5 kidnapping.
Halpin?s bloodied body was found in the home of Karen La Nae Miller with his hands and feet bound by a black cord, police said. Duct tape was wrapped around his head and mouth.
Halpin died from asphyxia from the beating, according to the coroner. Miller is charged with aiding and abetting first-degree murder and kidnapping in connection with the case.
Prosecutors have not yet characterized the relationship between Miller and the two men. But court records describe Miller as Halpin?s former girlfriend and that the pair had a history of domestic trouble.
A break in the case came when investigators learned Hahn used his cell phone in Meridian at about the same time Halpin died.
Both men were arrested by Bakersfield police.
Kern County Superior Court records show Hahn and Green each have had several scrapes with the law ? though nothing so serious as their current charges.
Hahn pleaded no contest five years ago to misdemeanor grand theft, burglary of a vehicle and receiving stolen property. And court records indicate he pleaded guilty in 2005 to driving under the influence of drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Green pleaded either guilty or no contest to a variety of misdemeanors in 2006 and 2007, including driving with a suspended license, defrauding an innkeeper, vandalism and resisting arrest. Details of a felony arrest in 2000 were not immediately available.

BANNING Anna Dorothy (nee Belec) age 95, passed away 7 November 2007. Pre-deceased by her husband Gerald of 55 years in 1992, she is survived by 4 children Lorraine Oostwoud (Roelof), Dennis (Donna), and twins Gerard and Margaret-Anne, 3 grand children and 2 great grand-children. She was the last remaining member of a family of 10 siblings. Anna was a person of strong religious convictions that she shared and practiced with her husband Gerry throughout their married life. As a mother and wife, she took great pleasure and pride in using her exceptional cooking and sewing talents for the benefit of her family. As a young woman, she survived both the loss of the family home to the Haileybury fire, and the great depression, experiences that instilled in her a sense of practicality and thrift. Despite those early hardships, she had a generous spirit, making it a point to being kind to everyone she met. She always will be remembered for her good humoured nature and her warm smile. Her infectious laugh cheered everyone who met her and was her trademark right to the end. Anna?s children are deeply grateful to the staff of Bethamni Nursing Home for their devoted and kind attention to our mother over the last decade. It was always comforting for the family to know that Anna received the best of care during her final years. Funeral services will be held on Saturday November 10, 2007 when friends and family will gather for Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. in St. Dominic?s Church celebrated by Rev. Daniel Lapolla c.s. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery.
