3162 Louise Marquardt (nee Dewar)
September 22 1925 - November 18 2016
A great heart has grown quiet, and we miss it more than words can say.
Louise was the youngest of five children born to Harvey and Lillian Dewar to grow up on the farm in southern Saskatchewan. In 1935 Harvey moved them to Creston B.C. where Louise completed high school. In Vancouver in 1943 she joined the St. Paul's nursing program run by nuns with strict rules about curfews and boys. Oh, the stories! Many of the Class of '47 Nurses became very dear friends and held an annual reunion for many years. While in nursing school Louise met Bill Marquardt on a blind date. They were married in 1947 and had four children whom Louise cared for lovingly at home in Burnaby. She also helped her husband's business and worked as its bookkeeper, volunteered with the Parent Teacher Association, and devoted much time to the Imperial Order of the Daughters of the Empire (IODE), rising to be its provincial president. In later years she took up stamp collecting, crossword puzzles, weaving and world travel with Bill. She loved the giraffes of South Africa. There were always Bridge games, road trips in the camper, parties, family reunions, and so many friends! Bill and Louise spent two months every winter on Maui at their beloved Kihei Surfside and welcomed all to the family cabin on Skaha Lake, their wisest investment and the vessel of a lifetime's happy memories.
Louise was young at heart, gracious and kind, and had a lively sense of humour. Love was what she did best. Always loving and forever loved.
She is predeceased by her husband (2006), parents, and brothers Earl, Don, Roy and Raymond. Louise adored her kids and their spouses - Don (Trenna), Carol (Bob, deceased), John (Sandy) and Doreen (Dave) - and her 14 grandchildren, their spouses and 5 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers please consider a donation in Louise's memory to the G.F. Strong Rehabilitation Centre.
The family wishes to thank the staff both at Harmony Court in Burnaby and Elim Village in Surrey for the excellent care they provided for their Mama Lou in her final years. A Celebration of Life will be held at Mount Pleasant Funeral Home 306 East 11th Avenue Vancouver, B.C. Thursday December 8th, 2016 from 1:00 - 4:00 P.M.

3182 Lyme - On Saturday, Dec. 8, 2018, Glenn Charles Dahlke, known to all as "Chip," passed away at his home in Lyme at the age of 67.
A native of Wisconsin, Chip grew up in Wethersfield and graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University with a degree in politics and economics. He spent time traveling, until settling back in Hartford where he worked at Cigna. In the 1980s, he lived in both Columbia and Mansfield Center, where he started a family. In 1990, he began a career in wealth management with his father, Gerald Dahlke, forming Dahlke & Associates. Chip was the proud steward of Ashlawn Farm in Lyme, a property which has remained in his family for over a hundred years. He accomplished his dream of bringing the 120-acre farm back to life, after taking it over from his uncle, Sam Harding. Ashlawn was revived with an extremely popular farmer's market, a coffee shop, a recording studio, as a venue for local events and its return to a place where community and family alike could enjoy its seemingly endless pastures. Chip personally saw to the fact that the farm was never a quiet or dull corner of Lyme.
Chip is survived by his mother, Daphne Dahlke of Mystic; and two siblings, Tom Dahlke of Brunswick, Maine and Diane Dahlke who resides in Cumberland, Maine with her husband, Dale Denno. Chip is predeceased by his father, Gerald Dahlke. Chip was a great supporter of the Lyme community and various civic organizations, from the Lyme Land Trust to Four Mile River Farm. He always gave when asked, to artists and farmer alike. In addition to being an avid skier, he loved fresh and saltwater fishing as well as working outdoors. In his business, Chip excelled, demonstrating a masterful approach to investing. Above all else, he was known for his wit and indiscernible 'Chipness' that struck a certain balance between candor and his ability to find humour in any situation. He always loved a good debate for the sheer enjoyment of stirring the pot. Ultimately, Chip measured his life by his children, who he lived to see embody his rationale, levity, and larger than life personality, often noting that they made it all worth it.
Close friends and family will gather at a yet to be announced time and place, to celebrate Chip's life.
