351 BANNING Anna Dorothy (nee Belec) age 95, passed away 7 November 2007. Pre-deceased by her husband Gerald of 55 years in 1992, she is survived by 4 children Lorraine Oostwoud (Roelof), Dennis (Donna), and twins Gerard and Margaret-Anne, 3 grand children and 2 great grand-children. She was the last remaining member of a family of 10 siblings. Anna was a person of strong religious convictions that she shared and practiced with her husband Gerry throughout their married life. As a mother and wife, she took great pleasure and pride in using her exceptional cooking and sewing talents for the benefit of her family. As a young woman, she survived both the loss of the family home to the Haileybury fire, and the great depression, experiences that instilled in her a sense of practicality and thrift. Despite those early hardships, she had a generous spirit, making it a point to being kind to everyone she met. She always will be remembered for her good humoured nature and her warm smile. Her infectious laugh cheered everyone who met her and was her trademark right to the end. Anna?s children are deeply grateful to the staff of Bethamni Nursing Home for their devoted and kind attention to our mother over the last decade. It was always comforting for the family to know that Anna received the best of care during her final years. Funeral services will be held on Saturday November 10, 2007 when friends and family will gather for Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. in St. Dominic?s Church celebrated by Rev. Daniel Lapolla c.s. He graduated from Wesleyan University in 1939 and served his country in World War II as a captain in the U.S. Army. He earned a Bronze Star, a Purple Heart and a Presidential Citation. He was most proud of his participation in the Los Banos prisoner-of-war rescue mission in the Philippines as a paratrooper in the 11th Airborne Division, memorialized in the PBS film, Angels at Dawn.

Rep, as he was known, worked in the field of public relations and advertising for most of his professional life. Beginning at Curtiss Wright Corporation in New Jersey, he moved to the Lionel Corporation in New York and the A.C. Gilbert Company in New Haven, Conn.

In 1958, he formed his own company, Banning Repplier Advertising Agency. He was also vice president and advertising director of The First New Haven National Bank.

Rep and his wife Libby also owned The Lambert?s Cove Country Inn on the Vineyard for 23 years. The inn?s roots go back to the late 1790s, when it was then part of a working farm. The Reppliers sold the property in early 2005.

During his many years in New Haven, Rep was very active in the community and served on numerous boards. He also stayed involved with his alma mater, Wesleyan University, serving as alumni fund chairman and on other alumni committees. He was a member of the Ocean Reef Club, the Angler?s Club and the Racquet Club in Key Largo and the Iron City Fishing Club in Ontario, Canada. He was also a member of the General Society of Colonial Wars and the Society of the Cincinnati.

As a young child, Rep first came to Spruce Head with his mother to visit her twin sister, his Aunt Helen, and Uncle Jimmy Wilson who was the summer minister for the First Universalist Church in Rockland.

This led to a lifelong love of Spruce Head. He and Libby found peace and contentment as they settled there for longer and longer summer seasons.

Rep was an avid tennis player and enthusiast and was still playing in his late eighties. At 86, he fulfilled a lifelong dream of making another parachute jump, his first since World War II.

He was also a lifelong reader of biography and history and was a gifted writer and eloquent speaker. He wrote an autobiography of his college and military years for his children and grandchildren. Rep was an alert and engaging person with a ready wit.

385 BARRY COUNTY -- Marshal "Mark" Kik, the longtime police chief of Barry Township, shot and killed himself shortly after he showed up for work this morning, police said.
Kik, 52, was found behind the police station on East Orchard Street, near Delton. Sheriff Dar Leaf was with the chief's widow and family this afternoon.
Sheriff's deputies had responded to a 7 a.m. request to check the chief's welfare when they found his body behind the police station, Undersheriff Robert Baker said.
He would not specify precisely what led police to check on the chief. Police said it was apparent Kik died of self-inflicted injuries.
Baker said the loss would be difficult for many. Kik, who served the department nearly 30 years, was widely known in law-enforcement circles as well as the community.
"He was well-liked and respected and known throughout the county, not just in this township, but the county, and he will be missed," Baker said. "It's a hard time for everybody."Township supervisor Wesley Kahler said Kik became chief 29 years ago, just months after he joined the department.
"Mark will be sadly missed by the Barry Township board and the entire community," he said in a statement. "Mark was truly part of this community. Our heart-felt prayers and thoughts go out to Mark's family at this very sad time."

388 BARTHOLOMEW, Margaret Lillian passed away on July 15 at her home. She was born on January 31, 1921 in Central Butte, Saskatchewan Canada to Andrew and Jane (McIlraith Munro) Weyer. In March of 1936 Andy and Jane migrated to Spokane, Washington with seven children in tow when Margaret was 15 years of age. She attended West Valley High School for one year then found work as a cook's helper and laundress for board and room plus $1.00 per day at the Bethany Home located just across the street from her home. She later worked as a live-in maid for the grandson of one of the founders of Spokane. In 1940 at age 19, Margaret was employed by Armour & Company and earned top wages for women at 54 cents per hour, trimming and cutting meats.
She met Stan Bartholomew in 1941, they wed in 1942 and shortly thereafter Stan was drafted for WWII. Margaret, like other women of the day, did her part in stepping up to take over work usually done by men while they were overseas fighting the war. She had a brief stint in Civil Service at the Spokane Army Air Force Depot (SPAAD) in Galena, Washington, in a classified material warehouse which stored bombsight parts for planes. Later, she saw an ad in the newspaper for the Northern Pacific Railway, which was looking for students for telegraphy, so she enrolled in the Spokane Telegraph School and was accepted. By Easter of 1944 she was notified by the school that she was ready to enter the work force. Her assignment sent her to Northern Pacific Railway Station in Bucoda, Washington, just north of Centralia. Here she used her skills learned in school to work as a telegrapher at the Western Union Telegraph & Cable Office located inside the train station. She worked there until November 1945 when her husband Stan returned from the war.
From 1951-1960 she owned and operated dairy farms at Spangle and Loon Lake, WA. She retired after many years as the Head Dietician at Deaconess Medical Center in Spokane WA. She had a hard work ethic to survive and raise her family. After retirement she followed her passion to write history stories of her life and family, some of which have been published. She was blessed with four sons who were the love, pride and joy of her life. James 1946, Daniel 1949, Roger 1955 and Jeffrey 1960.
She is survived by sons James, Daniel, Jeffrey and daughter-in-law Karen. Three grandchildren Brian, Trina and Andrew. Five great-grandchildren Dylan, Kyle, Josh, Jacob and Julie. Brother Joseph Weyer and sister-in-law Genevieve Weyer all of Spokane.
