    • Carlon H. Ober, 85, of Worcester died peacefully Wednesday January 14, 2009 at home, surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife of 62 years Betty M. (Gasser) Ober, a son Phillip J. Ober of Worcester, and four daughters, Karen A. Dwinell of Coronado, CA., Roberta E. Callinan and her husband James of Worcester, Cynthia L. Ober-Ressijac and her husband Richard of Ayer, and Diann L. Lewandowski and her husband Stanley of Shrewsbury. Carlon is also survived by seven grandchildren, Stephen, Sarah, Lindsay, Daniel, Elizabeth, Catherine, and Mark, and a greatgrandson Blake. He is also survived by several nephews, nieces, and his beloved dog JR. He was predeceased by his brother, Russell T. Ober Jr.
      Carlon was a life-long resident of Worcester. He was the son of the late Russell T. and Marian H. (Adams) Ober. He was a graduate of North High School, The Sewanee Military Academy, and attended the Monroe School of Optometry in Chicago from which he received his Certificate in Optometry. He was a licensed doctor of optometry. Carlon was an underwriter for the State Mutual Life Assurance Company of America for thirty-five years before he retired. He served in WWII in the Army Air Corps, 1rst Air Commando Unit, in the China-Burma-India Theatre, assigned to the Photographic Reconnaissance Squadron.
      Carlon was a member of All Saints Church and sang in its choir for many years. He was a member of the Morning Star Lodge of Masons, the Greendale Men?s Club, the veterans? group of the 1st Air Commando?s, and the Chindits. He enjoyed golfing, playing bridge, and traveling, but most of all being with his family. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
      The family would like to thank the VNA Care Network, especially Yvette, for their kindness and compassion given to Carlon and his family during his illness.
      Carlon?s funeral will be held Saturday January 17, at 10:30AM in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME AND CHAPEL 370 Plantation St. Calling hours in the funeral home are from 5-8PM on Friday. Interment will be in Hope Cemetery.
