    Notes:

    David Leland Troast, of East Syracuse, passed away, with his loving family by his side at his flower-gardened home. He was a 1969 graduate of East Syracuse-Minoa High School and worked for the New York State Department of Transportation and retired from the town of DeWitt Highway Department. He was an avid sportsman and gardener and enjoyed vacationing in Old Forge and the St. Lawrence. He was predeceased by his mother, Lillian Moore Troast Dreer, in 2002; his father, Kenneth Troast, in 1973; and his sister, Fran Downey, in 2000. Survivors: his wife of 37 years, Susan Owens Troast; daughter, Carie (Todd) Gregory; sons, Randy (Darcy) Troast and Robert (Francesca) Troast; grandchildren, Eva Mae and Lucas Randall Troast; brothers, Kenneth and Lewell; sisters, Linda MacCombie and Patricia Lamb; and devoted Chihuahuas, Sparky, Daisy and Sassy. Funeral Services: 10 a.m. Tuesday at Community Wesleyan Church, Kirkville.

    James E. Owens, 95, of East Syracuse, passed away peacefully at St. Joseph's Hospital. Born in Syracuse, Jim graduated from East Syracuse High School in 1934. He retired in 1977 from General Motors, where he worked as a tool and die journeyman. He was a communicant of St. Mary's Church in Minoa and a member of its Holy Name Society. He was a 4th-degree Sir member of the Knights of Columbus Council 5398. Active in conservation work during the '50s and '60s, he was a member of the Onondaga County Federation of Sportsmen's Club, Oneida Lake Club, South Bay Club, Fayetteville Rod and Gun Club, and worked with fish restoration in the Erie Canal. He was a retired member of the Minoa Fire Department. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, gardening, woodworking, golfing and writing. He was predeceased by his wife, Ada J. Finney Owens, in 1999 and his son-in-law, David Troast. Survivors: his children, Patricia (Gary) David of Myrtle Beach, SC, Marjorie (Jake) Coy of Fort Walton Beach, FL, James Owens of East Syracuse, Thomas (Laurel) Owens of East Syracuse, Susan Troast of East Syracuse and Mary (Jay) White of Wappingers Falls; 12 grandchildren, Timothy, Kristen, Danielle, Jill, Allison, Amy, Carie, Randy, Bob, Anna, Erin and Chris; and five great-grandchildren, David, Anthony, Veronica, Eva and Lucas. Services: 9:15 a.m. Wednesday at Russell H. Schepp & Son Funeral Home and 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, Minoa. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Minoa. Calling hours will be 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, 109 East Ave., Minoa.
