Ebenezer B. Mullen

Ebenezer Mullen, a resident here for three years, passed away Sunday, October 22 (1916). Ebenezer Mullen, a respected resident of this county for the past 43 years, most of the time a farmer in Pilot Grove township, passed away at his home 103 Hammond Street, at 2:30 p.m., from kidney and heart trouble after illness of about ten days. He had been in failing health for about a year.

The funeral was held on Tuesday, there being services at the home in Red Oak at 11 a.m., by Rev. F.N. Willis, D.D., and at the Pilot Grove M.E. church at 1 o'clock by Rev. D.B.S. Prather of the Elliott church. Singing was by Mrs. F.J. Brodby, M.B. Harris and Ira Askey, and the pallbearers were Clark, B.O., B. W., and Russell Mullen, and Edwin and Clarance Ray. Burial was in Pilot Grove cemetery. Those who came from a distance in addition to all the children, were following: Elizabeth Boeller and Mrs. Laura Yoker (Youker), of Raymond, Nebraska; Mrs. Edith Morton, of Lewis; E.A. Garside, of Charlotte.

Mr. Mullen was a native of Eastern Canada, born February 29, 1836, and when a young man moved to Illinois. He came to this county and Pilot Grove township in 1873, living there until 1914, when he moved to Red Oak. He was first married Jun 1, 1860, to Lucinda Stearns. His second marriage was to Mariah Garside, in Pilot Grove township December 6, 1883. Mrs. Mullen survives him, as do the following children: Clark Mullen, of Esbon, Kansas; B. O. Mullen, of Elliot; B.W. Mullen, of Pilot Grove township; Russell Mullen, of Red Oak; Mrs. Emma Ray, of Griswold; Mrs. Dora Latimer, of Montesano,Washington.

Deceased was a faithful member of the Methodist church for many years.

3. Emma Orel Mullen was born on 12 May 1868 in Rochelle, Illinois, USA; died on 23 Aug 1940 in Cass County, Iowa, USA; was buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Red Oak, Montgomery County, Iowa, USA.
4. Bert Wesley Mullen was born on 17 Jul 1878 in Montgomery County, Iowa, USA; died on 4 Aug 1964 in Red Oak, Iowa, USA; was buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Red Oak, Montgomery County, Iowa, USA.

Ebenezer married Maria Josephine Garside on 6 Dec 1883. Maria was born on 9 May 1859 in Bellevue, Iowa, USA; died on 31 Dec 1933 in Montgomery County, Iowa, USA; was buried in Pilot Grove Center Cemetery, Elliott, Montgomery County, Iowa, United States. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
