    A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. April 5 at Rest-Haven Memorial Park & Funeral Home in Eugene for Russell Eugene Phillips of Eugene, who died March 11 of age-related causes. He was 89.
    Phillips was born May 20, 1920, in Great Falls, Mont., to Ross and Connie Foster Phillips. He married Jane Palmquist on Jan. 2, 1973, in Seattle. She died Sept. 23, 2002.
    He served as a gunner in the Navy on the aircraft carrier USS Lexington, which was sunk by Japanese aircraft during the Battle of the Coral Sea. He also served on the USS Jacinto. He worked as a truck driver.
    Survivors include a son, Russell "Skeet" of Springfield; a stepdaughter, Pam Hobday of Truckee, Calif.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

    "R.D. Barton, Vocalist, Dies in Portland--Richard D. Barton, 61, well-known Salem vocalist, died unexpectedly in Portland Saturday shortly after he had finished singing for a wedding.
    He was rushed to a Portland hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
    Barton, for many years a line crew employee with the Portland General Electric, was a member of the American Legion drum and bugle corps which was awarded the national championship several years ago.
    He was a featured vocalist in the St. Paul's Episcopal Church choir and had lived in Salem nearly 40 years. Survivors include Mrs. Barton of Salem, son Richard P. Barton, Port-land; daughter, Mrs. Ruth L. Phillips, Eugene; a sister, Mrs. Lucile Wible, Portland; and four grandchildren.
    A veteran of World War I, he was a member of the American Legion.

    GEORGE WALTON ?-? FAMILY REUNION
    Nearly a half century ago the George Walton family who lived in Keene for. many years sold their property and went to the West Coast, taking the younger children with theirs who afterwards married and made their homes in the West. Last Tuesday the following arrived at Mr. and Mrs. Timothy Sullivan's for a reunion and to call on old friends which they had wished to do for so long: Harold Walton from Monroe, N. Y.; Mrs. George Quick (Lulu) from Rotterdam Junction, N. Y.; Dr. Ralph Walton from Mont Clair, N.J.; Paul Walton from Syracuse, N.Y.; Mrs. Lorena Sturgeon from Corvallius, Oregon, and Fremont Walton from Exeter, Calif. To Fremont and Lorena, who hadn't been here for so many years the old Keene was gone and a new one in its place with
    many strange faces, new homes and scenic wonders. The old friends were so glad to have the privilege of visiting
    with them again and hoping there will not be the span of years before they come to Keene again.
