    Fred E. Bailey, 88, passed away on Friday, February 17, 2006 in Upland, California. Fred was a longtime resident of Colorado Springs but had moved to California four years ago for health reasons. He was born November 19, 1917 in Royal, Iowa, the first of eight children of Lloyd and Grace (Harrison) Bailey. He grew up near Spencer, Iowa, where he married Anetha "Ann" England on November 21, 1938. They had four children: Verda, Ronald, Douglas and Thomas. Fred is survived by Verda of Apache Junction, AZ; Ron and wife, Anita of Chino Hills, CA; Tom of Colorado Springs; and daughter-in-law, Verleen of Colorado Springs. He is also survived by brothers: Ralph of Yuma, AZ, Dale and wife, Juanita of Colorado Springs, Glen and wife, Pat of Sun City West, AZ, Les and wife Mary Lou of Colorado Springs; sister-in-law, Wanda of Colorado springs; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, one great great-grandchild and his dear and loving friend, Wanda Armstrong of Chino, CA. Me was preceded in death by his wife, Ann; son, Doug, brothers: Emery and Ernest; sister Phoebe Heikens; and granddaughter, Shelly Bailey. While living in Colorado Springs, Fred was a member of El Paso Lodge #13 AF&AM, Southern Colorado Consistory, Al Kaly Shrine Patriots, Centennial Chapter No. 58 Order of the Eastern Star, White Shrine of Jerusalem and the V.Z. Reed Hose Company. He had worked for Hertz since 1988. A Memorial Service will be held at Village Christian Church, 3113 Primrose Drive, Colorado Springs on Friday, March 17 at 11:00 a.m. A reception for friends and family will follow. Inurnment at Memorial Gardens will be at a later date.

    Lloyd Bailey is Killed By Dynamite Explosion
    Lloyd Bailey, 55, of near Spencer, was killed instantly early Tuesday afternoon by a dynamite explosion while blasting trees on his brother's farm southwest of Royal.
    The mishap occurred about 12:30 P.M. Tuesday when a charge Bailey had set off went off prematurely. The blast had been set under a tree in the barnyard of the Morris Bailey farm located three miles southwest of Royal.
    Lloyd had been helping his brother blast trees at the farm for several days prior to the accident. It is believed that a defective charge caused the premature explosion. Lloyd was working alone at the time of the accident and the only eye-witness to the explosion was C. S. Nordland, a rural mail carrier out of Royal.
    The blast showered branches and dirt high into the air and by the time Nordland reached the scene Bailey was dead.
    The body was taken to Cobb-Warner Funeral Home in Spencer where funeral arrangements are pending.
    A father of seven children, Bailey was engaged as a farmer on land north of Spencer. He had been a resident of Royal and Spencer during his lifetime.
    He was born June 19, 1984, near Royal on the same farm where he was killed. He lived on the home farm until his marriage in 1917. He farmed near Royal for three years, then moved to a farm northwest of Spencer.
    One son preceded him in death.

    Lloyd Eben Bailey, 55, died at noon Sept. 20 while helping to blast trees near his home in Royal.
    The funeral was conducted Sept. 24 at the Christian church and burial was at North Lawn cemetery. Rev. Eugene S. Ogrodowski officiated at the services.
    Survivors include the widow, Grace Bailey; a daughter, Mrs. Donald Heikens; six sons, Frederick, Ralph, Dale and Lester of Spencer, Ernest and Glen of the Air Force. Brothers are Marshal, Winfield, and Morris of Royal, Dwight of Whittier, Calif., and sisters are Mrs. Eldin LeMaster of Royal and Mrs. S.W. King of Dickens.
    Lloyd Eben was born June 19, 1894, in Royal. He attended school in Clay County and Buena Vista college. He married Grace Harrison Jan. 24 [1917].
    Pall bearers at the funeral were Tom Clague, Victor Moding, Harry Larson, C.A. Carlson, Nels Rosendahl and Charlie Kohn.
    Among those attending the funeral were Dwight Bailey of Whittier, Calif.; Sherman McCraw, Aberdeen, S. D.; Mr. and Mrs. Grant Flowers of Wolsey, S. D.; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Slater, Sacred Heart, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Kirk Nicholson, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Nicholson, and Mark Nicholson of Hopkins, Mo.; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Burns, Dunlap, Ill.; and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Worsfold, Dunlap, Ill.

    Notes:

    Lieut. Ebenezer BAILEY, brother of Joshua, came to Berlin from Newbury, Mass., as near as can now be ascertained, about 1790, and made a permanent pitch on the East road. His farm contained 300 acres which he mainly cleared.. He was one of the prominent men of his town, and held most of the town offices, and was also an influential member of the Methodist church, and gave liberally for the construction of their first meeting-house. He died on his farm at the age of eighty-seven years. He had a family of thirteen children, several of whom settled in town. His son Ebenezer, born in Berlin May 30, 1796, married Sally BENJAMIN, daughter of Maj. Josiah, and settled on a farm on the opposite side of the road from his father. He was always a farmer and resided in Berlin from his birth to the close of his long life, August 13, I885, aged eighty-nine years. He was the father of ten children, all of whom lived to mature age. Mr. BAILEY was a man of sterling integrity, a good citizen, and obliging neighbor. Ozias B. BAILEY is the only one of his sons now residing in Berlin. He is now a justice of the peace and is engaged in farming.
