Helen Bennett

Glenn E. Bennett, son of Cecil and Nancy Bennett, was born on a farm near Otego, Kan., Jan. 20, 1899. He died in the Jewell County Long Term Care May 20. He was 88 years old.

June 23, 1921, he married Grace Mullen at Smith Center, Kan. To this union two children, Duane and Helen, were born.

Bennett's grandfather and father homesteaded the land that he farmed from 1921 to 1965, when he then retired from farming.

For a number of years, Mr. and Mrs. Bennett attended flea markets, antique auctions and shows. During this time they accumulated collections of antiques, collectibles, stamps and coins.

In 1980, they purchased a home and moved to Mankato. After moving to Mankato, they decided to sell the land that had been in the Bennett family for more than 100 years.

Survivors include one son, Duane, Mankato; daughter, Helen Barnes, Hutchinson; four grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; and many other relatives.

The funeral was Saturday, May 23, from the Kramer Funeral Home, Mankato, at 2 p.m., with the Rev. James Chambers officiating. Interment was in the Burr Oak Cemetery.

Clark married Sarah Augusta Newman on 25 Dec 1884 in Red Oak, Iowa, USA. Sarah was born on 17 Oct 1861 in Jefferson County, Wisconsin, USA; died on 22 Sep 1952 in Seibert, Colorado, USA; was buried in Seibert Cemetery, Seibert, Kit Carson County, Colorado, United States. Ebenezer Mullen, a resident here for three years, passed away Sunday, October 22 (1916). Ebenezer Mullen, a respected resident of this county for the past 43 years, most of the time a farmer in Pilot Grove township, passed away at his home 103 Hammond Street, at 2:30 p.m., from kidney and heart trouble after illness of about ten days. He had been in failing health for about a year.

The funeral was held on Tuesday, there being services at the home in Red Oak at 11 a.m., by Rev. F.N. Willis, D.D., and at the Pilot Grove M.E. church at 1 o'clock by Rev. D.B.S. Prather of the Elliott church. Singing was by Mrs. F.J. Brodby, M.B. Harris and Ira Askey, and the pallbearers were Clark, B.O., B. W., and Russell Mullen, and Edwin and Clarance Ray. Burial was in Pilot Grove cemetery. Those who came from a distance in addition to all the children, were following: Elizabeth Boeller and Mrs. Laura Yoker (Youker), of Raymond, Nebraska; Mrs. Edith Morton, of Lewis; E.A. Garside, of Charlotte.

Mr. Mullen was a native of Eastern Canada, born February 29, 1836, and when a young man moved to Illinois. He came to this county and Pilot Grove township in 1873, living there until 1914, when he moved to Red Oak. He was first married Jun 1, 1860, to Lucinda Stearns. His second marriage was to Mariah Garside, in Pilot Grove township December 6, 1883. Mrs. Mullen survives him, as do the following children: Clark Mullen, of Esbon, Kansas; B. O. Mullen, of Elliot; B.W. Mullen, of Pilot Grove township; Russell Mullen, of Red Oak; Mrs. Emma Ray, of Griswold; Mrs. Dora Latimer, of Montesano,Washington.

Deceased was a faithful member of the Methodist church for many years.
