| 852 | | William Derby William Francis Derby, 92, of West Hartford, husband of Catherine (Lycett) Derby, died Wednesday, (February 14, 2001), at John Dempsey Hospital. Born in Hartford, the son of the late George F. and Signe (Peterson) Derby, he was predeceased by his first wife, Ethel (Gustafson) Derby, in 1982. Mr. Derby worked as an engineer with the Torrington Company and New Departure of Meriden, and, after retiring, took a position as Business Agent for the Church Home of Hartford until 1984. He was an active member of Emanuel Lutheran Church in Hartford, serving as an usher and Sunday School Treasurer, and was a member of the West Hartford Squires. In addition to his wife, Catherine, he is survived by four sons, William F. Derby, Jr. of Albuquerque, NM, Donald N. Derby, and his wife, Priscilla, of Cromwell, R. Randolph Derby of Albuquerque, NM, and Jeffrey R. Derby of Burnsville, NC; his daughter and son-in-law, Susan B. and Wayne Vaughan of Columbia, SC; his sister, Dorothy Kahane of Springfield, MA; his four grandchildren, Christopher Vaughan of Portland, OR, Ashley Vaughan of Columbia, SC, Kassandra T. Derby and Susanna L. Derby, both of Cromwell; and his step-sons, Robert and Frederick Duell of California. Mr. Derby was also predeceased by his daughter, Carolyn Derby; and two brothers, George and Edward Derby. Visitation will be Monday, Feb. 19, 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Taylor & Modeen Funeral Home, 136 South Main St., West Hartford. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, Feb. 20, 11 a.m. at Emanuel Lutheran Church. Edwards of Chester; two daughters, Deborah Tuthill of Deep River and Loretta J. Fox of Killingworth; four brothers, two sisters and six grandchildren. Lyons Dead; Pioneer Winnipeg Druggist William Francis Lyons, 53, of 679 William ave., for 23 years a Winnipeg druggist, died Thursday at his residence. Mr. Lyons, who was born in Windsor, Ont., came to Winnipeg in 1904. Since 1907 he has owned and operated Lyons' drug store at the corner of Sherbrooke st. and Elgin ave. He is survived by his wife and three daughters, Mrs, A. Lewis, Lillian and Helen, all of Winnipeg. | 856 | | William Gordon William Gordon, a well-known and much loved resident of Ramsay Township, passed away suddenly in Rosamond Memorial Hospital, Almonte, on Tuesday, July 17th. The late Mr Gordon farmed all his life in this community. In 1920 he married Carrie Manson, of Middleville who with a family of three survives: Margaret, at home; Earl, of Vancouver, B.C.; Ethel, Mrs Clifford Melanson, of Cedar Hill. Four sisters and two half-brothers also survive: Mrs Maggie Corregan, Spruce Lake, Sask; Mrs Minne Elliott, Sonningdale, Sask; Mrs Eva G. Rankin, Ottawa; Mrs Ada Traill, Smiths Falls; Reuben Giles, Blakeney; Robert Giles, Almonte. His elder brother, Findlay, predeceased him fourteen years ago. Service was conducted at his late residence on Saturday, July 20 by Mr Arthur Powley, Cornwall. Interment was in the Auld Kirk Cemetery. Beautiful floral tributes from close relatives testified to their love and esteem. A donation to the British and Foreign Bible Society was made in tribute by Reta Traill. Other gracious and practical gestures on the part of the neighbours and a large circle of friends were indicative of the respect in which Mr Gordon was held and carried a message of sympathy to the bereaved family. J. Boyles and assisted by Rev. H. Horsey. Interment was made at St. George's Cemetery. Mr. James, who resided at R.R. 7, Perth, passed away in the Great War Memorial Hospital, Perth, on March 12th, 1969, after a brief illness. He was 79 years of age. Born at Union Hall on February 13th, 1890, he was a son of the late Thomas James and Elizabeth Woods. Mr. James had farmed most of his life on the original James' settlement homestead until 1965. He was married at Trinity Anglican Church, Ottawa, on February l8th, 1925, to Irene Edith Chambers, who survives 'along with two sons, Ronald and Carl of R.R. 7, Perth, and daughter Wilma (Mrs. Keith Cassidy, of Toronto and grandchildren, Kevin, Sharon and Blake Cassidy and Brett James. He is also survived by one sister, Pearl (Mrs. Wm. Munro), Almonte and predeceased by one brother, Herbert, and sisters Maud (Mrs. Hugh Munro) and Eva (Mrs. John Jackson). Mr. James was a faithful member of St. George's Anglican Church, Clayton, and latterly St John's Anglican Church, Balderson. He was a member of the Holstein Friesian Association of Canada for 46 years. | 861 | | William Knight 06/28/2002 WILLIAM H. KNIGHT HUNTINGTON — William H. Knight, 76, died at his home Wednesday, June 26, 2002, following several years of failing health. He was born in Burlington on April 28, 1926, the son of the late William and Hazel (Walton) Knight. During World War II, Bill was stationed in Germany with the U.S. Army and was involved in combat for two years. Upon his return to civilian life, he was employed as a mechanic for Wheeler's Farm Machinery. May 9, 1953, he married Beatrice "Bea" Hallock in Huntington. Bill loved the outdoors and all aspects of nature. He was a self-employed logger. He was an avid fisherman and very successful hunter. He always had a large vegetable garden with excess produce that he shared with neighbors and friends. His potato yield was always abundant, and he had many loyal customers who depended on his crop. During his retirement years, he derived much pleasure from washing and sorting them to keep himself busy. The Knight family always had a large assortment of animals that were an important part of the family. He is survived by his children, Karen and Mike Doolan of Essex, Myron Knight and his partner, Patricia Haskins, of Huntington, Michael and Sheila Knight of Starksboro, Marvin Knight of Winooski, Marty Knight of Waterbury, Monte and Becky Knight of Huntington, Milford and Laurie Knight of Burlington, and Merle and Carolyn Knight of Bristol; 13 grandchildren; a great-grandson; four sisters, Hazel Smith of Winooski, Sally Walters of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., Eliza Simard of Springfield, Mass., and Marion Beaker of Pine Island, N.Y.; three brothers, Robert Knight of Monroe, N.Y., Emery Knight of McGraw, N.Y., and David Knight of Lomax, Texas; many nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law; and his special pal, Tommy, his faithful cat. He was predeceased by his wife, Beatrice (Hallock) Knight on July 5, 2001, his brothers, Clayton, Stanley and Edward, and a special family member, Glen Truax. | 868 | | William Scott William Henry Scott The funeral of the late William Henry Scott, who passed away in his 81st year at his home on Malcolm Street, early Monday morning, was held Tuesday afternoon, July 11th, at 2 p.m. He was born at Boyd Settlement, Ramsay Township, a son of the late William Scott and Elizabeth Hampton of Union Hall. In the year 1881 he was married to Rachel Evans of Clayton. He made his home in Almonte and District, until 17 years ago when he left for Saskatchewan where he was employed by National Railways. Mr and Mrs Scott returned to their home in Almonte to celebrate their Golden Wedding in 1931, and for the past two years Mr Scott has been in poor health. Many beautiful floral tributes were received from the family and friends. the pallbearers were Messrs Bert Young, Roy Robertson, Ernest Robertson, Bert Evans, Harold Prescott and Harry Houston. He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife and three sons, William Harvey Scott of Almonte, and Alston and James of Melville, Sask; three daughters Ila, Mrs H.L. | 869 | | William Scott William Harvey Scott Fitting tribute to the memory of the late William Harvey Scott was paid at his funeral on Thursday Nov 5th, by a large number of sorrowing friends and relatives. Mr Scott had been in apparent good health until 10 days before his death when he suffered a heavy stroke from which he did not rally. He passed away on Tuesday, Nov 3rd, in the Rosamond Memorial Hospital. He was in his 72nd year. Born in Ramsay Township in Union Hall district, Mr Scott was a son of the late William Henry Scott and his wife, Rachel Evans. When he was 10 years of age, the family moved to the farm near Almonte now owned by Ernest Robertson. A short time later they moved to town. As a young man, he entered the employ of the Rosamond Woolen Company where he served for many years as an overseer of the Warping and Winding Department. In 1907, he married Miss Mary E. Davis of Almonte who survives with tow sons, Harvey Arthur and Edward Davis, and one grandson, David Scott. A son, Kenneth Bethune, predeceased him at the age of 18 years. He also leaves two sisters, Ila, Mrs Herbert Coxford, of Almonte and Bessie, Mrs Geo Van Iderstine of Saskatoon; and one brother, James Scott of Melville, Sask. Mr. Scott was a quiet, kindly man who was popular with a large circle of friends. He loved the outdoors and derived great pleasure from his frequent fishing trips to White Lake. He was a member of Almonte United Church The Rev J. Ray Anderson officiated at the service which was held at his home, Malcolm Street, Almonte. The pallbearers were Messrs Chas Houston, Louis Peterson, Harold Prescott, Geo Pretty, Wm Munro and Walter Morton. Among the beautiful floral tributes were wreaths from the employees of the Rosamond Woolen Company and Carleton Wholesale Limited. Internment was in the Auld Kirk Cemetery. Among those who attended the funeral from a distance was his brother, Mr James Scott of Melville, Sask; Mrs Scott's sister, Mrs W.J. | 872 | | William Yaroch YAROCH, William Carl MD Age 84 Passed away, with aequan-imitas, in Ann Arbor, Michigan, on November 28, 2011. He was born on February 13,1927, in Port Austin, Michigan, to the late Enoch and Loretta (Mayes) Yaroch. During his formative years, he was an avid reader. His intellectual pursuits were balanced by his interest in tennis and golf; he was a caddy at the Pointe Aux Barques Golf Club. As a youngster, he always tried to be helpful. He joined the high school basketball team so they would have enough players for their games. Upon completion of high school, he entered the US Army. He attended the Army Intensive Japanese Language School at the University of Michigan, the University of Minnesota, and Yale University. He then traveled to Japan to participate in the reconstruction effort at the end of World War II. During his military service, he developed a deep and lasting respect for the Japanese, as well as a notable dislike for armed conflict. He declined an opportunity to attend Officer Candidate School. Following completion of his military service, he returned to the University of Michigan. He earned bachelor and medical degrees. Subsequently, he completed his internship at Grace Hospital, and his residency in Psychiatry at the University of Michigan. In 1956, he married Flora McEachin. His working career was long and varied. He was in private practice for many years, and worked at the Center for Forensic Psychiatry. At various times in his career, he worked at the UM Psychiatric Emergency Services, the Federal Correctional Institution in Milan, and various community agencies. For approximately two years in the mid-1970's, he had a practice in Las Cruces, New Mexico, and had privileges at Memorial Medical Center. As a physician, he was both dutiful and compassionate; eager to help with the battle against mental illness. He had an enduring dedication to his family as well as his profession. His kindness, compassion, and generosity were some of his extraordinarily admirable traits. During his long and productive life, he was an avid gardener. Additionally, he appreciated art, particularly literature, music, and bonsai. He was preceded in death by his brother, Ernest (Audrey) Yaroch; and his sister, Isabel (Frank) Anderson. He is survived by his dear brother, Eldon (Jackie) Yaroch; and many loved nieces and nephews. He was an endlessly devoted father to his four children who also survive him, William Jr., Joseph (Cyndy Roy), Rosemary, and Ann (Dennis Smith); and a beloved grandfather of, Kevin Yaroch and Theodore Smith. In the spirit of continuing education, he has donated his body to the Anatomical Donation Program at the University of Michigan Medical School. A private family memorial has taken place. | 873 | | Willis Hartman Willis Lloyd Hartman, 88, oil producer, horse breeder, and polo player, of 1001 North Rock Road. Began his career with Gulf Oil Corporation in Tulsa. Later he and his son Ralph formed the Lonita Oil Company. Around World War II he bought 1700 acres of land just east of Wichita. All but 160 acres of that land was eventually sold and taken into the city. The 160 acres was known as Hartmoor Farms and included two polo fields. Hartman was active in polo from 1928 until last March, and he was founder of the Fairfield Polo Club. Survived by his son, Ralph, of Wichita. | 876 | | Wilma Messer Wilma Messer - Wilma Messer passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 5, 2013 at St. Mary's Hospital at age 88. She was predeceased by the love of her life, George, twenty years ago, and is survived by four children and their spouses: George & Doris Messer, Linda & Peter Davis, Peter & Johanne Messer and Philip and Marlene Messer, nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Wilma lived in Waterloo from the time she was three. She was one of 14 children of Thomas and Augusta Lough, and is survived by sisters Louise, Myrtle and Joanne. She maintained close friendships with her classmates from KCI, working friends from her days at J. M. Schneider, members of St. John's Lutheran Church and her nieces that included her in their family and church functions. In her younger days, Wilma was an adventurous traveller and made frequent visits to Europe. More recently her life was enriched by Third Age Learning, Saturday afternoon operas, and attending theatre performances with her friend Jean. Friends are invited to share their memories of Wilma with her family during visitation at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Tuesday May 7, 2013 from 4-8 pm. Her childhood was spent in Snowshoe, BC. She then moved to Prince George where she met the love of her life, Nelson Peacock. They were married on August 12, 1949. In 1975 the family moved to Armstrong until retiring to Vernon in 1995. Wilma is survived by her best friend and loving husband, Nelson, five children: Judy (Ray) Arnoldus, Allan Peacock, Laurie (Dan Proulx) Peacock, Bruce Peacock, Gayle (Darrell) Knorr; 8 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and 5 sisters. Funeral service will be held at the Pleasant Valley Funeral Home on Saturday, April 28 at 2:00 P.M. A reception will follow in the Pleasant Valley Tea Room. There will be a visitation on Friday April 27 at 7:00 P.M. and on Saturday, April 28 from 1200 ? 1:30 pm. | 878 | | Wilmer Watt Wilmer John Earl Watt died Feb 9 at the Ottawa Civic Hospital at the result of heart failure. He was 60. He was born March 28, 1932, in Lanark Township to the late James Hugh Watt and Florence Munro. Wilmer attended the Galbraith Elementary School and as an adult he enrolled in the BTSD program and ultimately obtained his high school equivalency diploma. A carpenter by trade, he will be remembered by his employers and fellow workers for his sunny disposition and good sense of humour. On Sept 7, 1962, he was united in marriage with Joyce Smith at the Almonte United Church by the Rev Francois Gerard. Wilmer spent his entire life in and around Almonte. He is survived by his wife Joyce, brothers Erwin of Almonte, Russell of Ottawa, sisters Hazel Fulton, Pakenham, Valma Bolger and Jean More, R.R. 1 Almonte, Gladys Currie of Almonte and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Len, formerly of Pakenham. The funeral took place at the C.R. Gamble Funeral Home, Feb 12 at 2 p.m. in the chapel. A touching service was conducted by the Rev Ted Colwell. The pallbearers were six nephews: John Fulton, Brian Bolger, Steve Currie, Allan Watt, Brent Watt and Jason Watt. Spears in 1955 in Amarillo. They moved to Borger and raised their family there. Mr. Spears was City Manager in Borger for 32 years. Winnie was very active in the community, especially with The Boys Club. She was also a member of the Dance Club and the Elks in Borger. She was an active member of the First Christian Church of Borger. Upon moving back to Amarillo she was active with the Senior Citizens and played in their band and loved calling Bingo. She was also very active with the AMVET Association. She was preceded in death by her husband A.C. Spears October 6, 2017. Her son David Charles Spears in 1958, and son Donnie Gene Hunter in October 2017. She is survived by her daughter Deborah Spears McManus and husband Dave of Amarillo. four grandchildren; Leneta Gevonne Robison, Deborah Leighann Wyche, Samantha Lee Seago-Clarke and David Charles McManus. | 889 | | YOUTH, SHOT IN FOOT, DIES AFTER LEG AMPUTATION YOUTH, SHOT IN FOOT, DIES AFTER LEG AMPUTATION Horace Wiley, 14, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Wiley of Cayuga Village, died yesterday morning at the City Hospital, following an operation performed Saturday afternoon for the amputation of a portion of his right leg. The boy was accidentally shot in the right foot while hunting pheasants November 9 in a field South of Cayuga by his cousin Roland Ridley. The lads were both chasing a wounded pheasant when in some unaccountable manner Ridley's gun was discharged. The gun load struck Wiley in the right foot Wiley was brought to the City Hospital in Auburn. It was thought that the foot might be saved but late last week infection developed and an operation Saturday became imperative. Wiley failed to rally from the amputation in his weakened condition from loss of blood and shock. He died yesterday morning. Surviving the youth are his parents, Fred T. and Anna Lyon Wiley; a brother, Frederick Wiley; a sister, Anna Wiley, and his grandmothers, Mrs. H. S. Wiley of Cayuga and Mrs. Brainerd Lyon of King Ferry. The funeral will be held at the home of the parents at 3 o'clock Wednesday afternoon. Rev. | 890 | | Yvonne Hiebert With much sadness and love, the families of Yvonne Doreen Hiebert announce her peaceful passing at Providence Place, Moose Jaw on Saturday, March 18, 2023, at the age of 83 years. She was surrounded by her loving children, grandchildren, and the team of compassionate caregivers on the St. Anthony ward. Yvonne was born and raised in Moose Jaw into a family of seven, being in the ?middle child? position. She attended William Grayson Elementary School till grade seven, then Alexander School for her grade eight year, and Peacock (Tech) High School for grades 9-12. Yvonne was an excellent student and took keen interest in the business courses, especially writing, typing, and shorthand. She worked part time in grade 12, writing jingles for CHAB radio station. She also enjoyed sports of all kinds, especially basketball and volleyball; and it was during these years, she met her true love, Gary. They were married right out of high school in 1959 and soon, her three children started to appear. Yvonne took employment as a stenographer at Valley View Centre for 22 years, lawyers? offices for five years, while also holding down the position of bookkeeper for the family Realty/Construction business. It was during these good years that Yvonne and Gary camped extensively with family, followed Mitch to many locations in Alberta while Hieb coached baseball. Yvonne enjoyed two big trips in her life, travelling to California in 1977 and to Hawaii in 1983. Soon, thereafter, in 1986, she lost Gary, and found herself a widow at the young age of 46. The family rallied and Yvonne was determined to be involved in her grandchildren?s lives, often seen watching and cheering them on at baseball diamonds, gymnasiums, or hockey arenas. She saw them all grow up and was her happiest with them around. She was extremely proud of them and their accomplishments. Yvonne loved the simple things in life and had the greatest sense of humour, often laughing at herself. She found joy in planting flowers in the spring, going to garage sales or shopping for deals at the mall. In the recent years, she found comfort in fur babies Coco, Roxy, and Barney, who were often found on her lap as she watched the Toronto Raptors on television. Her coffee pot was always on and she welcomed visitors with open arms, often her sisters and brothers and family members. Yvonne felt at ease in the city she grew to love and call home, she was a true ?Moosejavian?. Yvonne is survived by her children: Daughters Kelly (Alan )Brown, Denise (Mark) Dombowsky; Son Mitch Hiebert; Grandchildren Adam, Erin (Dwayne), Kendal (Age), James (Noelle), Mac, Emma, Breanna (Greg), Colby (Anthony), Sheldon and Josh; Great-Grandchildren Levi, Annie, Leena, Brooklyn, and Carter; Sister Karen Avery; Brother Arlen (Vi) Avery; Sisters in Law Sharon Hogemann and June Avery; as well as many special nieces and nephews.. We are confident Yvonne has been lovingly welcomed into the Lord?s Home by her husband Gary (Hieb); parents Lee and Gunda Avery; infant sister Carol; sister Shirley (Gerry) Telfer; brother Gilbert Avery; In-laws Vera Hiebert; Robert and Ursula Hiebert; Grant Hiebert; Sharon Pearman; John Hogemann; and nephew Bobby Hiebert. | 894 | | Zorada Green Zorada L. Green, 91, of Waterboro Hill Road, Kennedy passed away Wednesday (July 28, 2010), in WCA Hospital. A lifelong area resident, she was born July 29, 1918, in Cherry Creek, the daughter of the late D. Foster and Zorada Corinne Blake Green. Zorada was a graduate of Cherry Creek High School and Fredonia Normal School. She was employed by Pine Valley Central School for 37 1/2 years as a first grade teacher, retiring in 1976. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Jamestown, and had sung in the church choir since 1948. She had also served as chairman for the churches Music Committee, White Cross Circle, served as assistant moderator and other committees in the church. Zorada was a member of the Delta Kappa Gama having served as president, was a former member of the Chautauqua County China Painters. Zorada enjoyed china painting, other painting, music, crafts, reading, knitting, her friends, collecting music boxes and butterflies. Surviving is her son, Jack F. Green of Kennedy and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Merle W. Green, whom she married June 22, 1946, who died October 7, 1976; and an infant brother, Victor Green. |
