She is now at peace in heaven with her beloved Lord. Millie (Byers) is now reunited with her husband Frederick James Ayers, who died on March 17, 1976, and her parents Charles and Viola Byers, brother George Byers and sisters Bernice McDonald, Clara Jamieson and Hazel Byers. She is survived by her loving children Bill Ayers (Karen) of Callander, Jim Ayers (Elsie) of Sudbury, Shirley Van Horn (Garfield) of Haley Station, Sharon Gardiner (Allan) of North Bay, Mike Ayers of Callander, Norman Ayers (Rebecca) of Callander, Cheryle Benard (Robert) of Callander, 19 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, her brother Edward Byers (Jean) of Callander and many nieces and nephews. Her family will receive visitors at the Paul Funeral Home in Powassan (724-2024) today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and at Knox United Church on Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. The funeral service will be conducted by Reverend Richard Smith in the church on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. Interment Callander Union Cemetery. | 1105 | | Milton Symington Well-Known fiddler dies at Fairview Manor May 8 Long-time Ottawa Valley entertainer Milton Symington died May 8 at Fairview Manor. He was 92. After a long career as fiddle player, Mr. symington moved into Fairview Manor in Almonte last September. He continued to play with the band, Milton symington and Friends at local venues, including the Manor and Country Haven. Mr. Symington lived with his wife Annie in Ramsay township until 1953, when they moved to the Arnprior area. They raised six children and Annie , who died in 1887, attended as many of her husband's concerts as she could. Mr symington headed the Renfrew County fiddler's Association, sang in the Almonte United church choir and volunteered with the Oddfellows and the Masons. He also called square dances. "I wonder now how I found the time." Mr. Symington said in an interview last September. "Many's a night I didn't have time to sit down to supper." Mr symington is survived by sisters Mary McIntyre of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, and Evelyn McIntyre of Almonte, as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is the father of Helen (Bill) Dean, Kay (Jim) Kilburn, Doreen (Garnie) Zeibarth, Ron (Denise) and father-in-law of Barbara symington and Merlyn Zeibarth. He was predeceased by son Allan and daughter Eileen Zeibarth, as well as brothers Alex and Charlie. After a private family funeral on May 10, interment took place at the Auld Kirk Cemetery. | 1106 |  | Minerva Lane LANE: In Brandon on Dec. 9, 1970, Minerva Lane, late of 234 Rosser Avenue, Mrs. Lane was born at Renfrew County, Ont., and served overseas in the First World War as nursing sister. In 1919 she married Thomas Bryden Lane at Hastings, England, and she and her husband returned to Canada, settling in Brandon. She was predeceased by her husband in 1953, and a daughter, Ruth Melville in 1965. Surviving are three sons and two daughters: Thomas and William Lane of Brandon; Jack of Edmonton; Mrs. D. C. Murray (Shirley), Pointed Claire, Que., and Mrs. K, Patterson (Evelyn), Griswold, Man. There are 18 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. | 1109 |  | Miss Alice Banning Dies, Former News Employee Miss Alice Banning Dies, Former News Employee Miss Alice Crocker Banning, 84, for most of her life a resident of Newport, died Friday afternoon in a Middletown nursing home after a long illness. Born in Providence. Oct. 8, 1868, she was a daughter of the Rev. Carlos Banning and Harriet Elizabeth Pitman Banning and a niece of T. T. Pitman, for many years publisher of the Daily News. She was educated in the Newport schools, and was a student of music and a pianist of ability. Miss Banning served for some years on the editorial staff of the Daily News, and was its music reviewer. A member of St. Paul's Methodist Church, she was long its historian. She lived for many years in an apartment of the Maudsley House at 228 Spring St., serving as its custodian for the New England Society for the Preservation of Antiquities. Miss Banning, an aunt of Donald P. Thurston, was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She leaves a niece, Miss Bernice Banning of Ojai. Cal.; and a number of grandnieces and grand nephews, including Miss Dorothy B. Gladding, Mrs. Dwight C. Hambly and Miss Sonya Thurston of Newport; Mrs. Lloyd Dyer of Spencer, Mass. Capt. Douglas V. | 1114 |  | Miss Erma Sterns of Raymond Dies 6 Years After Car Crash In Which Her Back Was Broken Miss Erma Sterns Of Raymond Dies 6 Years After Car Crash In Which Her Back Was Broken Miss Erma Mae Sterns, 21, of Raymond, died at 5:10 o'clock Monday afternoon, six years after an auto crash in which she suffered a broken back. She had been an invalid since the accident November 24, 1933, in which Adolph and Lawrence Hellerich, both of Valparaiso, were fatally injured. It was reported at the time of the accident that Miss Sterns was paralyzed from the hips down. She was a member of a young group en route to a wiener roast when their car crashed through a bridge railing, plunging 25 feet. The mishap occurred five miles northeast of Valparaiso. Miss Sterns was then 16 years old. Hlmer Mellerich, cousin of the two fatally injured, and Miss Irene Gedes of Malcolm were also injured in the accident. Miss Sterns passed away at her home five miles west of Raymond. She was a member of the Crounse Methodist church. Surviving are her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John C. Sterns; two sisters, Mrs. Harley Giles of Lincoln, and Marilyn, at home; three brothers, J. Calvin, Louis and Richard, all at home; and a grandmother, Mrs. Louis Forke of Raymond. He was born in Emerson, Ill., Jan. 26, 1879, and moved to Oregon in 1907 where he lived on a ranch near Bonanza. He married Hazel B. McClelland of Klamath Falls in 1929. The high school gymnasium at Tracy also was destroyed by fire. Mrs. Marcellus Westmeier, 31, died of burns in a Maquoketa hospital, several hours after the blaze in which her nine-month-old son, Jimmy, perished and four others of her eight children were injured. The other death was that of Mrs. Mary Banning, about 80, in a fire at her Rock Rapids home. The condition of Westmeier, 31, a farmer at: Crabtown, 17 miles north of Maquoketa, was still critical today as was that of his daughter, Grace. 8. She was educated in the local schools and 46 years ago was married to Bertram Clarke who passed away 12 years ago. | 1128 |  | Mrs. Edward J. Hamilton Mrs. Edward J. Hamilton Mrs. Helene C. Hamilton, 57, of 371 Elm St., Montpelier, wife of Edward J. Hamilton, died Saturday afternoon at Heaton Hospital. She had been ill for many years. Born in Lawrence, Mass., Nov. 9, 1903, she was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Carruthers. Her early childhood was spent in Lawrence, Mass. and St. Johnsbury, Vt. She was graduated from Johnsbury Academy and Kimball College, Lowell, Mass. Her marriage to Edward Hamilton took place Sept. 27, 1927. For a number of years Mrs. Hamilton was employed by state, first in the office of the highway department and later in the office of the secretary of state, under Rawson C. Myrick. Mrs. Hamilton was a member of Bethany Congregation al 1 Church and was clerk of the church. She was active in Bethany Evening Club, the Montpelier Mothers Club and Rob Morris Chapter 24, Order of the Eastern Star. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Edward J. Hamilton and R. Douglas Hamilton, and one daughter, Jane, all of Montpelier; her mother, Mrs. Ada Carruthers, Glastonbury, Conn.; three grandchildren, Peter, Glen and Lori Ann Hamilton of Montpelier; one brother, Robert C. Hamilton, died Thursday morning in a Lyndonville convalescent home following a long illness. Prior to her death, she was an active member of he Danville community, having served various organizations in a number of capacities. She was born in North Danville, May 13, 1895, the daughter of William and Lillian (Kelsey) Clement. She attended the North Danville school and was a graduate of St. Johnsbury College and did post graduate work at Lyndon Institute. Following secretarial positions in | Lisbon, N.H. and St. Johnsbury, she was married on Oct. 8, 1918. She resided for the remainder of her life in Danville. She was a member of the Danville Congregational Church, active in Girl Scout work, past president of the Danville PTA and the Danville Women's Club. She was also a past matron of the Diamond Chapter O.E.S., past District Deputy of O.E.S., 5; Past Regent of the St. Jean de Crevecoeur Chapter of the DAR. She was a member of the Danville Homemakers Group and the Danville Homemakers Society and a former member of the American Legion Auxiliary. For more than 13 years she was local chairman and treasurer of the Salvation Army. She served on the Caledonia County Republican Committee. At the time of her death she was collecting and organizing data preparatory to writing a history of the town. She leaves three daughters, Mrs. Beverly Jenks and Mrs. Barbara Roberts both of Danville and Mrs. Frances Morse of Baldwin, N.Y.; one son, Paul Hamilton, of Watertown, Mass.; 14 grandchildren; nine greatgrandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Lyman Morrill and Mrs. Herman Emmons, both of Danville. To these words marks the passing of Mrs. Harvey McIntyre at her home in Sherbrooke, Que., on Friday Nov. 4, after a long illness. Funeral services were held on Nov. 6th in Plymouth United Church conducted by the Rev. F. A. C. Doxsee with C. V. Chamberlain presiding at the organ and members of the choir assisting in the singing of two favorite hymns of the deceased "I Am Thine, 0 Lord" and "What A Friend We Have In Jesus." Born in Easton, N. H., on Dec. 5, 1884, the daughter of John Hamilton and late Margaret Brownlow Hamilton, Mrs. MacIntyre spent most of her girlhood and early married life in St. Johnsbury, Vt., where on March. 25, 1903 she was united in marriage to Harvey MacIntyre. Coming to Sherbrooke in 1912 she gained a large circle of friends. She leaves to mourn her loss her husband; three daughters, Doris of Montpelier, Muriel (Mrs. Percy Gray), and Eunice of Sherbrooke; her father, John Hamilton of St. Johnsbury; two brothers, Edward Hamilton of Montpelier, and Dr. William Hamilton of Danville, Vt.: one sister, Miss Hazel Hamilton of Newport, N. H.: one son-in-law, Percy Gray of Sherbrooke; and two grandchildren, Bruce and Merlyn Gray; besides her sisters-in law, and nieces and nephews. Interment took place in Prospect Cemetery. The bearers were Messrs. James Whiting, Frederick Emslie, Frank Ross, and Ralph Cutts of Sherbrooke, Charles George of Milby, and Andrew Johnston of St. Johnsbury. Nov. 13 - Many residents of Callander district attended the funeral Saturday afternoon of Mrs. John Byers, one of Nipissing's earliest residents, at Callander. Miss Nellie South and Miss Katie Robinson officiated at the service. The pall-bearers were Gordon and Allen Grawbarger, Wesley and Percy Watson and Carl and Llloyd McDaniel. Internment was in Nipissing Cemetery. She was in her 67th year. Mrs. Byers died Thursday night at the home of her son, Irwin Byers, in Callander. She had been ill since last April. She was born at Parham, Ont., the former Florence Mary Perry, daughter of Parker Perry and the late Mrs. Perry. She moved to the Nipissing district at the age of six years and resided in the district since that time. Her marriage took place June 8, 1897. She is survived by her husband, four daughters, Mrs. S. Grawbarger of Larder Lake; Mrs. A.W. Radkey of Larder Lake; Mrs. Bert Johnston of Callander; and Mrs. W.I. Clark of Sturgeon Falls; and six sons, William and Enos of Nipissing; and Alex, Levi, Gordon and Irvin of Callander. | 1147 |  | Mrs. John Robertson Dies MRS JOHN ROBERTSON DIES Mary Ann McKay was born in the Middleville District, Lanark County, Ontario, 1879. The third daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas McKay. In the year 1901, she came west residing for a time with her sister Mrs. W. Mealy at Minto, later coming to Sinclair where in the year 1910 she married John Robertson, Together they made their home in the Ewart district six miles north of Sinclair. To this union were born two daughters, Edna and Eleanor, who both reside at home. Mrs. Robertson will be long remembered for her kindly neighborly spirit and for her sympathetic understanding of those in sorrow. A Christian wife and mother has been called to a fuller life and to the bereaved husband and family, we offer the sympathy of the entire district in this sad hour. Besides the immediate family there are left to mourn her loss five brothers and three sisters. John of Arnprior, Welland of Almonte, Charlie of Clayton. Two sisters also reside in Ontario, Mrs. Jack Reid and Mrs. John Rodger, both of Almonte, and Mrs. W Mealy of Minto, Manitoba. Two brothers Alec and Tom live at Sinclair.
