| 1551 |  | Wesley Hyland Wesley M. Hyland 1937—2016 Wesley M. Hyland, 79, of Belvidere, passed away peacefully, Thursday, November 3, 2016, after a long illness. Born March 22, 1937, in Belvidere, son of Herman S. and Floretta I. (Langdon) Hyland. Wes was a lifelong resident of Belvidere, and a graduate of Belvidere High School, Class of 1955. He went on to graduate with honors from Worsham College of Mortuary Science, where he served as the president of his class. He married the love of his life, Nancy Butz on July 31, 1955, in Belvidere. Wes was a licensed funeral director, and was the owner of Buck-Wheeler-Hyland Funeral Home, since 1955. Wes was a faithful member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, and was active on numerous boards and committees, including "Coming Together", which built the new church facility that was dedicated in 1996. He was a member and past president of the Northern Illinois Funeral Directors Association, a member of the Illinois Funeral Directors Association and the National Funeral Directors Association. Wes was elected to five terms as the Boone County Coroner from 1968-1988, and was a former member, past president, and chairman of the "Disaster Preparedness Committee" for the Illinois Coroner's Association. He was a charter member and long-time treasurer of the Boone County Republican Club, and organized the annual Republican "Steak fry" for many years. Wes was a former member and "Ambassador" of the Belvidere Chamber of Commerce, as well as being the past president of the Belvidere Jaycees and the Belvidere Noon Rotary Club. As a descendant of an early Boone County settler, he was an avid genealogist. Wes was a life member of the Boone County Historical Society, and was extremely proud to be a former member, past president, and longtime office holder, of the Sons of the American Revolution. He enjoyed traveling and the outdoors, which included fishing and camping. Wes along with his wife, served as a catalyst and organizer of numerous group trips, both domestic and foreign. He and Nancy were "Snowbirds" who traveled to the southwest for the winter, and took other vacation trips and weekend excursions with his 5th wheel trailer, where they traveled to all 50 of the United States. Wes is loved and missed by his wife of 61 years, Nancy; daughter, Delores (Wayne) Hyland-Mrozinski of Boulder City, NV; son-in-law, Garry Roden of Gilbert, AZ; grandchildren, Samuel and Sarah Roden; sister, Mary (David) McEleney of Normal, IL; brother, Paul (Shelley) Hyland of Crystal Lake, IL; nieces, Jennifer Parry and Kathy Vize; nephews, Andrew and Bradley Hyland; brother-in-law, Wayne Butz of Belvidere. He is preceded in death by his parents, and daughter, Marilyn Roden. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, November 8, 2016, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1045 Belvidere Road, Belvidere, IL 61008, with Rev. Allan Buss officiating. | 1552 | | Wesley Schulde Wesley Alois Schlude, 96, beloved husband of Stephaine R. (Rittlinger) Schlude of Ellington, died Saturday (December 13, 2014) at Meadow Brook of Granby. He was born in Hartford on July 14, 1918 son of the late, Louis C. Schlude and Edna (Warner) Schlude; living in Hartford a short time and in Broad Brook a short time, moving to Ellington. Wesley worked for Pratt & Whitney in Production Engineering for 28 years, retiring at an early age to run his farm. Pratt & Whitney sponsored him at UConn for two years. He was schooled in Ellington and Rockville High School Class of 1936. He was a member of the Ellington Congregational Church and the Better Age Club. Wesley and his wife did a lot of traveling in their camper covering the East Coast and Canada. His family is one of the original settlers (Warners) of the Town of Ellington having settled in 1760. The house they lived in was built by one of his ancestors. In addtion to his wife, Stephaine, he leaves two sons and their wives, Robert W. Schlude, his wife, Christine Schlude of Moultonboro, NH and Leonard W. Schlude, his wife, Cathy Schlude of Bloomfield, CT; two grandchildren, Marianne Schlude DeCarli, her husband, Christian DeCarli and Glenn R. Schlude, his wife Michelle Charette and a great granddaughter, Jennah Schlude all residing in Ellington. His family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 17 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Road, Enfield. Funeral and burial will be held privately. Mr. Tibbitts was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan, moved to Ft. White in 1996 coming from Ft. Myers. He was a chemical engineer and he served in the US Navy during World War II in the Pacific. | 1563 | | Wilfred Byers Wilfred Byers A long time resident of this city, Mr. Wilfred Byers passed away at Leisure World, Saturday, January 14th. He was 84. Mr. Byers was born and resided at Bark Lake (Renfrew County), as well as Nipissing Village and Parry Sound. He moved to North Bay in 1941. A person interested in nature, Mr. Byers was an ardent carver and mounted moose and deer horns as a hobby. He was also an avid hunter. He enjoyed music to the fullest, playing the violin for house parties when living in Nipissing and also as a pastime until sickness intervened. He also repaired violins. Mr. Byers is survived by a son, Emmeth, Mrs. John Collins (Helen), Mrs. Harvey Collins (Ethel) and Mrs. Robert Steed (Bernice), all of North Bay. He will be fondly remembered by fifteen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a brother, Gordon of Clearwater, Florida, and a sister, Mary Ellen Lines of Florida. He was predeceased by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Byers, brothers, Kenneth, William, Lorne and Hubert, and a sister Mrs. George Hignell (Eucaria). He attended Bradley University, Peoria. He was employed as inspection foreman at Eagle Signal Corp., formerly of Moline, until 1966. Later, he worked as a quality assurance specialist at the Rock Island Arsenal, for 14 years. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of Moline Consistory and Rock Island Lodge 658. He was also active in local camping clubs. He was a World War II Army veteran. He enjoyed traveling, woodworking and mall walking. He was born Jan. 23, 1925, in Kit Carson, Colo., to Phil and Lottie Kellogg Mullen. He was a longtime resident of the Maysville area. He was a rancher, carpenter and steel guitar player. He was a former president and charter member of the Northeast Oklahoma Steel Guitar Association, playing steel guitar for various events. He was preceded in death by one grandson, Billy Mullen. | 1573 | | William Adams William Adams Sr., age 89, of 12 Burgess Place, Groton, died peacefully on Monday morning, April 24, 2006 surrounded by his family at the Groton Regency. He was born in New London on Aug. 16,1916, the son of Robert J. and Alida Vincent Adams. He fell in love and married Isabell Doyle on June 21, 1936. They would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary this June. Bill worked for 38 years at Electric Boat Co. as a general foreman for quality control. During his employment he traveled to Idaho to work on the first nuclear powered submarine, "The Nautilus" and he also traveled to Saratoga Springs to work on the second nuclear powered submarine, "The Seawolf". He was a past foreman and life member of the Pioneer Hose Company in Groton and a charter and life member of the Groton Lodge of Elks and a member of Sacred Heart Church. After his retirement in 1976 he and Isabell enjoyed traveling around the world, Hawaii being one of their favorites. They enjoyed wintering in San Diego with their daughter Barbara. Bill's hobbies included woodworking, gardening and sports. He was an avid Boston Red Sox fan. Most of all he enjoyed life and spending time with his family. During his stay at the Groton Regency he was loved and well cared for by the staff. Besides his wife he is survived by a son, William Adams Jr. and his wife, Patricia, of Westerly; his daughter, Barbara Robinson, of San Diego, Calif.; four grandchildren, Debbie Camberos and her husband Jaime, of California, Sheryl Champlin and her husband, Harry, of Mystic, Kristin Partosan and her husband, Scott, of Mystic and William Adams III, of Stonington; and four great-grandchildren, Jaime, Tiana, Chelsae and Ryan. Bill also leaves a brother, Francis and his wife, Virginia Adams; two sisters, Janette and her husband, Roland Swanson, and Betty Mason. Bill was born on the Stillaway farm, son of Edith (Stillaway) and Edward South. He was raised in the Nipissing area. When he was young, he worked in the lumber camps for the Odorizzi and Moore families. He married Doris Grawbarger in December 1944. They farmed and supplemented their income in the tobacco farms of Southern Ontario. They raised a family of five and Bill devoted much of his life to family outings. Bill worked at Dupont from 1957 until retirement. He was widowed in August on 1991 and then married Irene Bradley on December 4, 1992. Bill South was a gentle, soft spoken, loving person who enjoyed the outdoors. He was involved in the Pine Ridge Hunt Camp and his own camp in Hornepayne. Bill has 15 grandchildren whom he loved very deeply, and they always looked forward to spending time with grandpa. Casket bearers for Mr. South were Tim South, Ryan South, The South, Matthew Colin, Kevin South, Michael South, Brandt Bradley and Dennis Johnston. | 1576 | | William Banning William Calvin Banning, Electrical Engineer William Calvin Banning, 84, an electrical engineer who did reliability testing of satellite components for the National Security Agency, died of renal failure June 29 at Washington Adventist Hospital. He lived in Silver Spring. Mr. Banning also served in the Army Reserve, retiring as a lieutenant colonel in 1958. He was a native of New York who attended McKinley Technical High School. He was a 1939 graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and also received a second bachelor's degree, in electrical engineering, from the University of Louisville. He served in the Signal Corps in North Africa and Europe during World War II and as a cryptographic security officer in Germany after the war. He resigned his commission in 1949 but continued with the National Guard and Army Reserve. He worked for the Naval Security Station starting in 1951 and retired from the NSA in 1979. Mr. Banning was a Boy Scout master and commissioner, former treasurer of Christ Episcopal Church in Kensington and a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church in Silver Spring and the Lutheran Lay Theology and Fellowship organizations. He also belonged to the Army-Navy Club, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Phoenix Society, Military Order of World Wars, National Rifle Association, Potomac River Jazz Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion. His marriage to Katherine Whitaker ended in divorce. His second wife, Mildred Stirratt, died in 1989. Survivors include his wife, Shirley Banning of Silver Spring; two children from his first marriage, Richard C. Banning of Takoma Park and Julia Millar of Juneau, Alaska; two sons from his second marriage, Charles K. Banning of Annandale and Edward S. Banning of Old Lyme, Conn.; and a grandson. | |
| 1577 | | William Beebe William Andrews Beebe passed away at home early in the morning on Oct. 2, 2016. Bill was born on May 11, 1935 in Worcester, Massachusetts, the son of Mae and Edwin Beebe. His formative years were spent in Vermont and Maine, where he graduated from Orono High school in 1953. After that he moved back to Burlington, attended the University of Vermont and earned a B.S. in technology, finishing in 1957. While at school he met Katharine Laura Fernald (Kay); they were engaged on graduation eve and married on March 8, 1958. After a honeymoon trip to Aspen for skiing, they continued on to Las Vegas, Nevada where Bill immediately began his Air Force tour of duty. Here their first son Christopher was born in September of 1959. Anticipating Bill?s deployment to Shemya Island, Alaska on the Bearing Sea, they loaded up the Studebaker Lark and drove east. Kay and Chris stayed first with her parents in Verona, New Jersey and then with Bill?s parents in Burlington, Vermont where early in 1961 their second son Michael was born. As soon as his Air Force service, operating a radar facility, was finished, Bill returned to New England and resigned from the military. The new family moved to Watertown, Massachusetts, where Bill enrolled in the Harvard Business School, graduating with an MBA in 1963. From there, it was back to the greater New York area where Bill was employed by Goldman, Sachs & Co. and Kay was employed feeding and chasing two increasingly active young men. After about three years, Bill accepted a position as chief financial officer at a then small company called Dunkin? Donuts in the Boston area and the family moved to Scituate, Massachusetts. Several years later he went on to work and consult for a variety of small, struggling high tech companies in the Boston area, focusing his talents towards reorganizing management strategies. Kay and Bill lived on the South Shore for the next 35 years, until Kay got her long standing wish to relocate to Montana, where she could be closer to her new grandsons. In the autumn of 2000, they settled in Bozeman, where Bill eased into retirement. Bill lived an active life; he loved to ski, play tennis, hike, fish and garden. He always read a lot, and as he grew older, he spent more and more time in the kitchen, making dishes from his ever-growing cookbook and recipe collection. He will be long remembered for his quick wit, common sense and devotion to his family. Preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Mae, and his son Mike, Bill is survived by his sister Nancy, his other son Chris and three grandchildren; Ava, Fergus and Max. A quiet, family memorial celebration is planned for Thanksgiving Day, his favorite holiday. | |

Prior to his retirement in 1980, Mr. Chamberlain was the owner and manager of Chamberlain Pontiac-Cadillac car dealership in Oswego for more than 25 years. Most recently, he was employed by the Oswego County Savings Bank. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Navy. Mr. Chamberlain was a member of and served on the board of directors of the American Red Cross. He was a member and past officer of the Oswego Rotary Club and a member and former officer of the Oswego Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Chamberlain was the president of the Oswego Car Dealers Association and served with Meals on Wheels. He was a communicant of the First United Methodist Church. The late Mr Gordon farmed all his life in this community. In 1920 he married Carrie Manson, of Middleville who with a family of three survives: Margaret, at home; Earl, of Vancouver, B.C.; Ethel, Mrs Clifford Melanson, of Cedar Hill. Four sisters and two half-brothers also survive: Mrs Maggie Corregan, Spruce Lake, Sask; Mrs Minne Elliott, Sonningdale, Sask; Mrs Eva G. Rankin, Ottawa; Mrs Ada Traill, Smiths Falls; Reuben Giles, Blakeney; Robert Giles, Almonte. His elder brother, Findlay, predeceased him fourteen years ago. He was born in New Liskeard on May 30, 1931 to Cecil and Mary Bond. Educated in New Liskeard, he married Shirley Corneal there on May 14, 1954. Mr. Bond held various positions at Temiskaming Printing Company and he was photographer and owner of Bond Photo Lab in New Liskeard. Mr. Bond lived at his Katherine Street address for over 50 years. He enjoyed fishing with his family, taking photos of family and wildlife and amateur radio until his later years. Recently he was involved in local politics and was a member of KOPS. Mr. Bond was also a member of the Temiskaming Kennel Club, the Canadian Kennel Club and was on the executive of PROD, Temiskaming Radio Amateur Club. He is survived by his wife Shirley; children Dulcie Shepherdson (Barney Bogart), Tim Bond (Denise), Mary Bullock (Dave) and Darrell Bond (Sue Ward); nine grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. He was predeceased by his grandson Jonathan Wm. Bullock. Upon his return to civilian life, he was employed as a mechanic for Wheeler's Farm Machinery. May 9, 1953, he married Beatrice "Bea" Hallock in Huntington. Bill loved the outdoors and all aspects of nature. He was a self-employed logger. He was an avid fisherman and very successful hunter. He always had a large vegetable garden with excess produce that he shared with neighbors and friends. His potato yield was always abundant, and he had many loyal customers who depended on his crop. During his retirement years, he derived much pleasure from washing and sorting them to keep himself busy. The Knight family always had a large assortment of animals that were an important part of the family. He is survived by his children, Karen and Mike Doolan of Essex, Myron Knight and his partner, Patricia Haskins, of Huntington, Michael and Sheila Knight of Starksboro, Marvin Knight of Winooski, Marty Knight of Waterbury, Monte and Becky Knight of Huntington, Milford and Laurie Knight of Burlington, and Merle and Carolyn Knight of Bristol; 13 grandchildren; a great-grandson; four sisters, Hazel Smith of Winooski, Sally Walters of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., Eliza Simard of Springfield, Mass., and Marion Beaker of Pine Island, N.Y.; three brothers, Robert Knight of Monroe, N.Y., Emery Knight of McGraw, N.Y., and David Knight of Lomax, Texas; many nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law; and his special pal, Tommy, his faithful cat. He was predeceased by his wife, Beatrice (Hallock) Knight on July 5, 2001, his brothers, Clayton, Stanley and Edward, and a special family member, Glen Truax. Funeral services will be held Monday, July 1, at 10 a.m. in the Huntington Baptist Church with burial to follow with full military honors in the family lot in Maplewood Cemetery.
