Evelyn was born in North Himsworth Township, September 24, 1929, the beloved daughter of the late Levi and Agnes Byers of Callander. She is survived by three brothers and five sisters: Gladys (late Tom) Masson, Callander; Wilda Byers, New Brunswick; Violet (late Eric) Hazelwood, Powassan; Wilburn (late Isobel), Powassan; Sam (Ethel), Dunnville; Gwen (Clarence) Hazelwood, Saskatchewan; Tom (Carolyn), Chatham; Marjorie Trainer, North Bay. She was predeceased by a brother Andy, Chatham and a sister, Greta (Hector) Bayliss, Hamilton. She will also be missed by many nephews and nieces, friends and relatives. Friends and relatives may pay their final respects at the Paul Funeral Home, Powassan today, February 6th, 2006 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral service will be conducted on Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Funeral Home Chapel. | 304 |  | Everett Thompson THOMPSON, EVERETT S. (Ev to his many friends and colleagues), age 90, passed away at home on March 6, 2015 at Porter Hills Retirement Community in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He was born May 19, 1924 in Detroit to the late Everett & Virginia Thompson. Following his high school graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army, serving in the Signal Corps during WWII. On returning from service, he graduated from Michigan State University with degrees in Civil Engineering and Public Administration. While there, he met and married his sweetheart, Janet. Everett began his career as a public adminstrator, ultimately becoming city manager in St. Johns, Michigan before joining Williams & Works in 1957. Over the next 25 years, he and his brother-in-law, Ted Williams, built the firm into a leading engineering and surveying company that was nationally recognized for their innovation and service. Later in his career, he continued to be part of the engineering community as a management consultant, helping other firms to prosper. He was respected by his peers - serving as a leader of professional organizations at the state and national levels. He was president of ACEC and NSPE/PEPP. Everett had a passion for fishing and golfing, both of which he enjoyed the most while sharing them with friends and family. He was an avid woodworker, a skill he learned from his father growing up and one that he shared with others. His grandchildren are the main beneficiaries of his woodworking passion, spending many hours in "Grandpa's Workshop" building projects. Everett was active in the local community through his service in Rotary, township planning commissions and other organizations. He and Janet, were also long-time members of Ada Congregational Church. Everett will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 65 years, Janet Thompson; children Doug (Alix) Thompson, Ginny (Andy) Rundquist, Bruce (Brenda) Thompson and Laura Thompson (daughter-in-law). Surviving grandchildren include Tara Thompson, Jeff (Nathalie) Thompson, Steve Thompson, Emily Shachter, Ben Shachter, Cameron Thompson and Max Thompson. He was preceded in death by his son Dan Thompson, brother Otto and sisters Eleanor, Mildred and Helen Jane. Visitation will be held Tuesday at Metcalf & Jonkhoff Funeral Home from 4-7pm. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday March 11, 2015 at Ada Congregational Church, 6330 Ada Dr. SE, Ada, MI 49301 with Rev. Gary Burdick officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Everett's name, to Ada Congregational Church. Sadly, missed by 9 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. As a young boy Floyd worked in the logging camps around Nipissing where he first met Georgina. From there he moved to Sudbury where he found employment with INCO in the early 50's. He worked in the Smelter as a Puncher for many years and then as a Skimmer, retiring in 1991 after working 41 years. He seldom missed a day's work over his long career. He was dedicated to his job and the company. The family recalls having summer vacations every year while they grew up, visiting family friends in Dansville, NY, Toronto Crystal Beach, and Nipissing visiting Uncle Daniel's Farm. Dobbs GOLDEN VALLEY (Staff) - Herbert John Dobbs, one of the communities most popular citizens, died June 30 in a North Bay hospital. Mr. Dobbs was in his 46th year. Rev. Brampton of the United Church conducted services at the home, the church and the graveside. Members of the Argyle Lions Club held a memorial service and the Loyal Orange Lodge members held a graveside service. Pallbearers were Edward Diamond and Fred Hinchberger, Lions members; Bert Drive and Leo Driver, LOL members; and Oliver Towns and Wendel Moore of the United Church board. Mr. Dobbs had taken an active part in all three organizations. Mr. Dobbs enjoyed music. He organized and led an orchestra for the past 20 years. Mr. Dobbs was born November 11, 1910, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William John Dobbs. He was a lifelong resident of the community. His marriage to the former Vera Ellen McConnell of Nipissing took place October 4, 1933. He is survived by his wife; a son, Berton, 21; Noreen, 17; Judy, 11, all at home. Also surviving are seven sisters and five brothers. They are Mrs. John Currie (Laura), Mrs. A. Badgley (Gertrude), South River; Mrs. W. Cunnington (Mae), Matheson; Mrs. R. E. The funeral was large, being attended by many old friends and neighbors from Papineau, as well as Mattawa citizens who had known her for years. F. M. Hendricks officiating, with burial in Mt. Prospect. Mrs. Armstrong was born in Sandusky, N. Y., Oct. 16, 1867. She was married Sept. 15, 1887, to Edward Armstrong, They spent their earlier life in Sandusky, coming to Franklinville about 30 years ago. Mr. Armstrong is a jeweler and has conducted that business here many years. Mrs. Armstrong was an ardent worker and member of the Free Methodist church, having joined when a young girl. She was also much interested in the temperance cause, having been president of the local W. C. T. U. for 25 years.
