Wardner Scott, former state engineer, dies
Lincoln: Former State Engineer Wardner G. Scott, 63, died Monday afternoon at a local hospital.
He took ill suddenly Sunday night.
Scott, a lifelong Lincoln resident, was senior partner of Hoskins and Associates engineering firm since 1945. He was president of the W.A. Lynn Construction Company and the Central State Bridge Company.
Scott served as state engineer from 1941 to 1948 under governors Dwight Griswold and Val Peterson.
Scott, prominent in construction and engineering, served as president of the Nebraska Highway Heavy Chapter of the Associated General Contractors of America in 1952.

Warren C. Adams, father of Bernice Tucker of the Victor Central School faculty, died at his home in Arkport, Monday, October 6, 1941 after a long illness. He was 75 years old.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Ella Wardner Adams, by two daughters, a sister, a brother and two grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted at the home, Wednesday, and burial was made at Almond.

The House of Industry and Refuge was was in operation from June 1869 until 1957. The House began transitioning to an “Old Aged Home” as early as 1920 and the term “Industry” was dropped from the title of the House at the beginning of the 20th century. The building was demolished in 1961.

Wayne Elbert Winn, Popular H. S. Junior, Dies At Hospital Wayne Elbert Winn, ,17-year-old son of Harry E. Winn of 278 Conway street and popular member of the junior class of the Greenfield' High school, passed away Monday night at the Isolation hospital, where he had been confined for the past few days with erysipelas. Several days ago the youth sustained a cut on his upper lip. Infection set in and he was removed to the hospital.
He was born in Brattleboro, Vt. but came to this town parents shortly afterward and attended the local public schools. He was a member of the Congregational church at Nash's Mills and also of the Young People's society of the church. He formerly was a member of Troop 5, Boy Scouts of America. At the high school Winn was interested in athletics and played on several class teams. He was a member of the High school commercial club, served on class committees and took an active, part in other functions at the school.
Funeral services will conducted from the Ingell & Shepard funeral home, Federal street. Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. George Carter will officiate. Burial will be in the Green River cemetery.

STAUNTON - Allen Wayne Quick, 79, husband of Patricia (Neff) Quick, of Staunton, died Saturday, October 24, 2020 at Augusta Nursing and Rehab Center.
He was born November 15, 1940 in Hyattsville, Maryland, a son of the late George Wesley and Edna Katherine (Armstrong) Quick.
Mr. Quick was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
He retired from the Virginia Department of Transportation as a superintendent, and following retirement, he was employed by Guy C. Eavers Excavation. He also was a frequent volunteer at Augusta Health.
Allen was a member of the gospel group The Crestmen.
In addition to his wife, family members include four children and their spouses, Debbie Quick and Rick A. Moore, Jeffrey Carlisle and Lora Flint, Heather Denise and Rob Clem, and Brandon Travis and Monica Flint; and five grandchildren, Ella Allen Moore, Madison Marie Flint, Hailey Leeann Flint, Audrey Rose Flint, and Cecilia Anne Flint.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 28, 2020 in Thornrose Cemetery by the Rev. John Ward.
Active pallbearers will be Billy Wade, Rick Moore, Dale Smith, Brandon Flint, Jeff Flint, A.J. Thompson, and Robert Clem.
