2552 James Leonard Munro was born to Dan and Jean Munro on March 16th, 1927, on the family farm near Drake, Saskatchewan. James was the second youngest child of their family of 9 children. The family moved to Nipawin, Saskatchewan when James was still very young, and landed at the new Munro farm a few miles east of Nipawin. In the early years it was tough living on the farm, and Dan and Jean taught their children how to work, live, and love our Heavenly Father.
As a young man, James had many different jobs off the farm, and one spring after returning home from working in a steel foundry in Ontario, Gladys Nadiger was at the farm visiting his sisters. He told Gladys, they were going to be ?chums? that summer. It turned out they were married that year on November 3rd, 1948. Jim and Gladys had three children, Harold, Gwen, and Brian. They lived on the farm East of Nipawin until the kids started school, then they would move into town for winter, and back out to the farm for the summer.
Jim farmed with his son Harry until Harry?s sudden passing in 2013, and then farmed with his grandson, Vince up until the fall of 2023. His livelihood and passion was farming. He loved to be in the action and was always up for an adventure.
He made his choice to serve God as a young man and stayed true to that calling until the end of his life. He was at peace with his choice, and his words of encouragement and positive outlook were a light to all those who knew him.
Jim and Gladys? family has grown to include 11 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. Jim loved and showed interest in his family and had a special relationship with each one. He would visit, play, tease, and joke, or ?tune you in,? if needed. Everyone who knew him has fond memories of our dad, grandpa, and friend.

2563 James Winthrop Banning, 56, left us to be with his Lord and his dad on Tuesday, February 25th. Jim was a native Memphian, born at Methodist Hospital. Although he spent his grade school and high school years on the east coast in Connecticut, where he gained an appreciation of diverse perspectives and Brooks Brothers clothes, he never really left Tennessee.
Jim initially followed his parents lead and matriculated at UT, but eventually returned to his birthplace and graduated from University of Memphis.
Several years in business convinced Jim of his true calling: serving the sick and infirmed. He graduated from Baptist Hospital Nursing School and then enjoyed working in the hospital with all types of patients and in whatever ward they assigned him. Although disability cut his career short, nursing was the perfect vocation for Jim, combining an intellectual challenge with personal care and service for those needing help.
His desire to serve didn't end when his nursing career did. For many years Jim was a regular volunteer at The West Clinic, where he would patiently sit with those with critical illnesses, providing comfort and support. Jim's weekly routine also included the Neighborhood School, where he befriended and tutored kids needing a little one-on-one attention.
Jim nurtured his Christian faith as a member of First Evangelical Church, where he regularly sang in the choir. Jim was most proud of the beautiful Easter programs they produced. He was also an active participant in the men's Bible Study Fellowship at both First Evangelical and Second Presbyterian Church.
While Memphis was always home, Jim loved to travel. He never hesitated when a suggestion was made for a weekend in New York, a drive up California's Pacific Coast highway, Colorado in the middle of ski season, or any number of European destinations. His favorite trip was a Christian tour of Greece and Turkey with his church. Whether with friends, family, or even by himself, Jim loved the adventure, the sights, and the people he met along the way.
Jim was a man with a quiet spirit, a deep faith and a serving heart. While having several health issues throughout his life, Jim spent his time making the best of the lemons he was given, which was usually in a large glass of iced tea, and putting others above himself. Always smiling, always friendly, always upbeat, Jim never complained, but only thought of how he might brighten someone else's day.
Jim will be missed by his many friends. But his life will be remembered and celebrated by his mother, Mary James Banning, with whom Jim shared many of his adventures, and by Katherine Banning Lintz, his loving big sister. Jim loved visiting and traveling with Kathy, her husband Richard Lintz, and especially his niece Allison and nephew Christopher.
Jim's close family also included a special relationship with his aunt, Mary Ann Frazier, his uncle, the late Tommy Frazier, and brotherly cousins Tom, Tim, Dan, Jon and David. Along with their spouses and children, Jim was enriched in their warm and loving family environments.
There will be a private family burial at Memorial Park Cemetery, where Jim will be laid alongside his father, Clarence "Sonny" Banning, who Jim knew for only a precious short time.
A memorial service will be held at First Evangelical Church in Memphis at 1:00pm on Friday, February 28th, with a visitation following from 2:00pm to 3:00pm. Donations to the Church Health Center, First Evangelical Church, or a personally important charity would please Jim immensely.

2577 Jason A. Lewis, passed away from home, took the holeshot, cleared the triple jump and crossed the finish line into Heaven on February 17, 2014. He was 41 years old.
Jason lived his whole life to the extreme and when he set out to do something, he planned on being the best.
He had an aggressive personality, and early on, he excelled working in sales. It didn't matter if it was a vacuum cleaner or a new car, he would make you want it. Jason had the fortitude to go back to school, earn his diploma, continue on to graduate college, and become a licensed funeral director. This was one of his greatest achievements.
Jason took motocross racing to a whole new level. He always went "all out" and won countless races and titles during his career. He gave his all at 4-wheeler and drag racing too. Jason was a natural at all kinds of fishing- from tarpon fishing Boca Grande Pass, pitching a top-water to a lurking largemouth in the backset, trout on Mad River, mastering the drift on Salmon River, to winning the annual Catfish Derby almost every time- he went looking for the biggest, and usually found it. He loved hunting and everything that was associated with it. Deer hunting the rut in late fall, opening mornings of New York and Pennsylvania, were all so important to him and again, he usually positioned himself in the right spot at the right time.
Above all though, he especially loved his kids and always tried to do the best he could for them.
Jason leaves behind his 3 children, Jeremy, Evan and Rhyan Lewis; his mother and best friend, Betty Ann Lewis; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Neil and Sarrah Lewis, Keith and Crystal Lewis; his grandmother, Harriet Armstrong; his uncle, William Richards; and nieces, Jillian and Autumn.
He joins in heaven his role model and very best friend, his dad, Ronald A. Lewis; also his grandfather, Linden Armstrong; and grandparents, Bob and Betty Richards.
Jason struggled throughout his life with addiction, which caused many hardships with different parts of his life. He lost this battle, but finished the race and won his crown because through all his troubles, he always kept his faith in God.
His family will gather privately at his funeral home, Richards Funeral Home to cherish his memory. In honor of Jason, if you or someone you know is struggling with addiction, please seek help now or reach out a hand to someone that needs it. Never give up.

2585 Jean Marie Hazelwood - May 16, 1926 - May 1, 2020 Devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend Jean Marie Hazelwood, 93, died peacefully on May Day, 2020, after battling the COVID 19 virus.
Jean was born in San Francisco on May 16, 1926, the first child of Warren and Kay Craft. She was followed by her brothers Warren ("Bud") and Donald and sister Kathy. Jean grew up in the shadow of the Palace of Fine Arts and walked across the Golden Gate Bridge on opening day in May 1937. She attended St. Vincent De Paul Grammar School, where she skipped kindergarten because she was so tall.
In 1937, Jean and her family moved to Avila Road in San Mateo. She and her siblings attended St. Matthew's Catholic Grammar School. Jean then moved on to Notre Dame Belmont High School, where she graduated in 1943. She would proudly be the first of three generations to attend NDB.
After high school, Jean attended College of San Mateo, where she met her best friend forever, before there were "BFF's," Mimi Field Barrett. They would be pals for over 70 years.
In December 1951, Jean met Jack Hazelwood of Oakland at a New Year's Eve party. They were married in May 1953 at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church on the Notre Dame Belmont Campus. While Jack worked in the insurance business, they enjoyed living near Russian Hill in San Francisco, Queen Anne Hill in Seattle, and Santa Monica. During much of this time, Jean had a successful career in the travel business working for General Steamship Company in both San Francisco and Los Angeles.
In 1959, Jean and Jack moved back to the Bay Area as Jack began working in the investment and securities business. In 1962, their son Mark was born. The young family then moved to San Mateo, where their daughter Joan was born in 1964. In 1966, the family moved to Bucknell Drive, where they started lifelong friendships with the DeWitts, Bigelows, and O'Callahans- among many others.
Jean was a dedicated mom for Mark and Joan. She volunteered at Baywood Grammar School; San Mateo National Little League; Brownies; and Joan's swim teams- The San Mateo Marlins and Golden Gate Aquatic Club.
In 1977, Jean returned to the travel business, working as a travel agent for Morrison Travel and Ethan Allen Travel in San Mateo. Through her job, Jean and Jack enjoyed a number of trips to Europe. After Jack's passing in 1992, Jean began another career- professional grandmother to Jackie, Jennifer, Matthew and Kevin. In 1999, she moved to her condo on the water in Foster City. Her family fondly remembers 4th of July celebrations/BBQ's with "Grandma." In recent years, Jean lived at Sterling Court in San Mateo, where she entertained her friends and family, and enjoyed a game of bridge.
Jean will always be remembered as a great cook (lemon cake and pot roast recipes available upon request), faithful wife, devout Catholic, caring friend, and the best mother and grandmother.
Jean is survived by her son Mark (Leslie), daughter Joan (Chris), grandchildren Jackie, Jennifer, Matthew, and Kevin, brother Bud (Gael) and sister Kathy. She was preceded in death by her husband Jack and her brother Donald.
Our family would like to thank the courageous health care workers at Mills-Peninsula Hospital and Mission Hospice who cared for Jean as she fought the COVID 19 virus.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hazelwood Family Scholarship at St. Ignatius College Preparatory, Notre Dame Belmont High School, or Peninsula Gatepath. To honor Jean, a celebration of life will be held on a date, yet to be determined when we all can gather.

2597 Jeremiah French was a New York farmer and Loyalist who served with the British army during the American Revolution. When he fled to Canada in 1777, French was hunted by rebel Committees of Safety, who issued this wanted notice. THIRTY DOLLARS REWARD ESCAPED from the guards the 21st of April last, one Jerah FRENCH of Manchester, who was prov'd to be a notorious TORY and was confined therefore. Whoever will seize the said FRENCH and return him to the commanding officer at Ticonderoga shall be entitled to the above reward. Every friend of liberty is hereby requested to take him dead or alive. Per order, JOSEPH BRADLEY, chairman of the committee of several towns assembled at Dorset, Dorset 21st April 1777. Jeremiah French was perhaps not a typical Loyalist. Safe in Canada, he joined the Queen's Loyal Rangers as a lieutenant in 1777. According to the charges in his court martial in 1781, French immediately embarked upon a second career of fraud and embezzlement. The Loyalist lieutenant, said his commanding officer, had stolen and sold barrels of beef and flour that should have been issued to his troops. Acquitted, French nonetheless left the Queen's Loyal Rangers and joined the King's Royal Regiment of New York in November of 1781. A new regiment meant a new uniform, which French purchased in Montreal. The French family preserved this uniform for generations, until they donated it to the Canadian War Museum in 1983.

French, Jeremiah (I29928)

2598 Jeremiah French was born c. 1712, the second son of Samuel and Mary (Price) French of Stratford, Connecticut. He moved from Connecticut to Dover, Dutchess County by 1756 and leased two large farms totaling over 400 acres. He lived near Old Dover's Tavern in South Dover. He was an original purchaser of some of the New Hampshire Grants and before the Revolution owned much of what is today Manchester Center, Vermont.
He had 4 sons who were loyalists; Jeremiah Jr., Benjamin, Charity and Gershom. He was often accused of being a Loyalist himself, and after some skirmishes with some of the locals, and having to escape for awhile to Long Island, he finally prevailed in Court and retained all his lands in Dutchess County, New York.
