4174	QUICK, Lulu W. b. [ ] 1884 d. [10 Sep] 1963 C-40-02-02 "Corvallis--Mrs. Lulu Quick, 78, former Salem school teacher who has recently been living in New York, died while on a visit here Tuesday. Mrs. Quick, the former Lulu (McClelland??), was born at Saranac Lake, N.Y., and taught school in that state until moving to Salem in 1912. She taught school for many years at Salem, until her marriage there in 1938 to George W. Quick. They moved to Maryland, where he died in 1944. The following year she returned to Salem, then in 1949 moved to Rotterdam Junction, N.Y. She came to Oregon for a visit two months ago. She was the first president of the American Legion Auxiliary Capital Unit 9, Salem. Survivors include a sister, Mrs. J.E. Sturgeon, Corvallis, two brothers, Paul Walton, Camilles, N.Y., and F.W. Walton, Exeter, Calif. Services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at McHenry Funeral Home, Rev. James McCobb officiating. 4175	QUICKFALL, Herbert (Herbie) Arthur 84, died July 18, 2013 at St. Mary's General Hospital in Kitchener where he received wonderful care. Born May 6, 1929 in Waterloo Township to Arthur and Elva (Kraft) Quickfall. Loving husband of Barbara Anne (Boettger) Quickfall for 52 years. Much loved father of Heather and John Leffler, Rick Quickfall and Geovana dos Santos, Phil Quickfall and Heather Godwin. Cherished grandfather of Sarah and Lisa Leffler, Helen (Leffler) and Robert Smith, Max and Emma Quickfall. Brother to Alice and Cam Clair. Herb will be missed by his sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, honorary grandchildren, friends and neighbours. Predeceased by his parents, sister Ruth and brother-in-law Hugh Craig. Farming his Kraft grandparents farm, 620 km west of Montreal (Bridgeport), Herb owned a livestock trucking business. With Jim Clayfield, their company Fall Land Fields farmed near Breslau and employed many young people. After selling his trucking business to K & H Quickfall, Herb worked for Norstern Meat Packers and several owners who followed them. Incredibly generous, Herb provided leadership and space on the farm for generations of 1st Bridgeport Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Rovers. He was a faithful member and leader of Bridgeport United Church, a member of the Bridgeport Lions Club for over 40 years and a committed member of the Bridgeport Community Association. Gardeners, neighbours and members of The Healing of the Seven Generations enjoyed sharing the farm and river flats. Herb and Barb welcomed friends from around the world into their home through Scouts, Lions and other exchange programs. Herb was awarded the Silver Acorn in 1978 for distinguished service to Scouting and the Lions Club's Helen Keller and Melvin Jones Awards. Herb touched the lives of countless people of all ages. 4176	R. Scott Ridge, 55, of Houston, formerly Baytown, was born April 4, 1953 in Dilley, TX and passed away Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at home. He was a 1971 graduate of Ross S. Sterling High School and received his Associate's Degree from Lee College and was an electrical engineer at Jacobs Engineering. He attended Trinity Tabernacle Assembly of God Church while growing up and was currently attending Mont Belvieu Assembly of God Church. He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Ridge and uncle, Gregory Brake. He is survived by his fiancée, Kathy Johnson of Baytown; son and daughter-in-law, Kirk and Clarissa Ridge of Pasadena; daughters, Angela Ridge and Amanda Ridge, both of Houston; mother and stepfather, Maryann and Dennis Campbell of White Settlement; brothers and sister-in-law, Jeffrey Lee Ridge of Fort Worth and Tracy and Susan Ridge of Weatherford; sister and brother-in-law, Susan and Dan Frost of Talequah, OK; uncles and aunts, Dell and Sue Brake of Midlothian and Jack and Terry Brake of Fort Worth; and grandsons, Noah, Asher and Fynnlan. 4179	Ralph Bailey, 89, a longtime resident of Colorado Springs, passed away on June 2, 2014 at his home in Yuma, Arizona. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and worked for many years in civil service. He retired on April 18, 1980 from housing maintenance at Peterson Field. Ralph was born on October 5, 1924 in Spencer, Iowa to the late Lloyd and Grace (Harrison) Bailey. He was married on November 17, 1946 to Leona, who passed away in 1999. He is survived by two sons, Mark and Marvin; two daughters, Cindy Beasley and Jodi Leonard; 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, and a great-great-granddaughter. Visitation will be from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 13, 2014 at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. 4180	Ralph E. Avery, 95, of Freeman Township, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2016, at Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington, Maine. He was born July 3, 1920, in New London, the son of Kenneth and Marion Avery. He was a World War II veteran serving as a Navy aviation metalsmith aboard three aircraft carriers during his service from 1940 to 1953. Ralph loved dancing and was a square dance club member in the 1960s and 1970s. He was a lifelong stamp collector, enjoyed music (particularly Bill Gaither gospel music), and was a talented builder and handyman. Ralph is survived by his sons, Ralph R. Avery and Pasco B. Avery; three grandchildren, Josiah P. Avery, Jodi D. Hoffman and Jessica D. Matchett; two great-grandchildren, Albert and Nicholas Hoffman; and his sister, Beth Bernhardt. He was predeceased by his brother, Kenneth Avery; and his sister, Betty Hewitt. There will be no funeral services at this time. Interment will be in Connecticut. 4181	Ralph I. Main, 87, of Church Hill Farm, North Stonington, died peacefully on Saturday, April 13, 2013, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Jacqueline M. (Duffy) Main for 62 years. Sadly, she predeceased him on Feb. 4, 2012. Born in North Stonington on April 14, 1925, he was the son of the late Ralph I. and Margaret Hazel (Brown) Main. Mr. Main owned and operated Church Hill Dairy Farm in North Stonington for many years and later retired from the state of Connecticut Highway Department in 1987. A true Swamp Yankee he was a member of the North Stonington Grange for over 75 years, North Stonington Fair Association, North Stonington Historical Society, president of Union Cemetery Association, and weigh master at North Stonington Fair. He was also a former first selectman for the town of North Stonington. He will be sadly missed by his children, Deborah L. Proulx and her husband, Gerald, of North Stonington; Douglas I. Main and his wife, Carol, of Lindent, Vt. He also leaves his sister, Beverly Poole, of Ohio, and six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. He was predeceased by his daughter, Diana Lynn Walters, and a grandson. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, April 17, 2013, at 10 a.m. at Union Cemetery, Route 49, North Stonington. 4182	Ralph Nathaniel Clark, Jr., 93, from the Ivoryton section of Essex, Connecticut died February 13, 2014 at Middlesex Hospital's Hospice after a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of the late Stella Elizabeth (Wineski) Clark. Ralph was born September 7, 1920 in Essex and was a lifetime resident of Ivoryton. He was the son of Ralph Nathaniel Clark, Sr. and Doris Snow (Miller) Clark, both also of Ivoryton. He is predeceased by his sister Jane Elizabeth (Clark) Stannard and his brother Elbert Miller Clark, also residents of Ivoryton. He leaves two nephews, Charles and John Stannard of Ivoryton, a niece Christine Schumacher and her husband Donald of Ivoryton, and a nephew Ronald E. Clark and his wife Virginia of Haddam. He also leaves several great nieces and great nephews. Ralph also leaves a sister-in-law, Catherine Wind of Ivoryton. Ralph attended Pratt High School in Essex where he graduated in 1938. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1942 and served mostly with the 6834th Rearmament Regiment in Algeria, France, and Germany before receiving his honorable discharge in 1946 after 26 months in the European Theater. While in the service Ralph earned a Good Conduct Medal, the Victory Medal, the American Theater Campaign Ribbon, and the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon. Ralph was employed for many years as a Quality Assurance Engineer at the Cramer Division of the Conrac Corporation in Old Saybrook. While working at Cramer's, he attended New Haven College, now the University of New Haven, earning first an Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering in 1962 and then his B.S. Degree in Electrical Engineering in 1967. After retirement, he spent most winters in Englewood, Florida. He was an avid golfer and after playing in several industrial leagues he continued to golf well into his eighties. He was a longtime member of the Essex Veterans Memorial Hall, Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Essex and the Knights of Columbus. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at the Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main Street in Centerbrook from 10:00AM until the time of a Prayer Service at 11:00AM. Burial with the rendering of Full Military Honors will follow in Saint Mary's Cemetery in Clinton. 4183	Ralph Richard Poston, Sr. Miami - Ralph Richard Poston Sr. passed away on Friday, March 20, 2009. Ralph was a native Miamian, born January 2, 1923, to parents, Richard Rockwell Poston andMary Emma Washburn Poston. He survived his 12 half-brothers and half-sisters, and sister, Ruth Poston Stasko. While at Andrew Jackson High School, he delivered newspapers, and lettered in sports; swimming, golf, track, basketball and football. Upon graduation, he married his classmate, Carolyn Sue Davis. They were married in Allapattah Methodist Church, and remained married 66 years, until Carolyn's passing. Ralph enlisted in the U.S. Navy in WWII following the attack on Pearl Harbor. He and future business partner, Roger E. Kopplow, were stationed at Port Everglades. Poston served as Machinist First Class on a submarinetender, the USS Euraile , and was deployed to the South Pacific. He attended the University of Houston. He was a member of the local Ironworkers Union, and worked as an ironworker, until a man in his Church encouraged him to start his own business and loaned him $500, as seed money. Poston Steel Company was the steel construction business he began. In 1950, the name changed to Poston Bridge & Iron, Inc., when the company bought out Florida Bridge & Iron from Ralph Boardman, while Boardman's company was working on the 36th Street bridge across the Miami River. As company President, he was a significant contributor towards the post-war boom of South Florida. His company was involved in building many high profile construction projects for over 30 years, including the Americana, Eden Rock, DuPont Plaza, Burdines, the South Beach Pier, Turkey Point, the Port and the downtown Federal Building. He was also elected the 2nd President of the National Steel Erectors Association, 197071. Poston was passionate about teaching, as well as building. With Carolyn as his Graduate Assistant, he was an Instructor of the Dale Carnegie Course for more than 25 years. He took great pride in the accomplishments of his students. He served in the Florida House of Representatives and Senate over a 14 year period. He was leader of the Dade Legislative Delegation; and Chairman of the Senate Transportation Committee. Poston was appointed to the National Highway Safety & Advisory Committee, and Dade County Citizens Safety Council. He was a member of Business, Inc. and a Mason from South Miami Lodge No. 328. He was also active in the Downtown Kiwanis Club, the local Lions Club and International Association of Lions Clubs, 1950; a member of the National Society of The Sons of the American Revolution; and served on numerous Dade County Blue Ribbon Panels, as well as on Boards of Directors in Miami, including those of SunBank, Goodwill Industries of Miami, and Epworth Village. He was an active member of the Kendall United Methodist Church in Greater Miami, where he was Chairman of the Building Campaign, President of the Methodist Men and taught an Adult Sunday School class; and later sang in the choir of the Cruso United Methodist Church in North Carolina. The Postons were residents of Pinecrest, Tallahassee and Waynesville, North Carolina. Poston is survived by his three devoted children; his son, Ralph Richard (Rick) Poston, Jr. and his wife, Toshiko, of Kendall; daughter Dorothy (Dottye) Susan Poston Barrier and husband, Jerry L. Barrier of Albemarle, North Carolina; and daughter Sheryl (Sherry) Lynne Poston Jordan and husband, Harry L. Jordan of Coral Gables; his grandchildren, Lisa Lynne Poston, Jennifer Lynne Barrier Isaman, Mindi Suzanne Poston Gay, and Michael David Barrier; and seven greatgrandchildren. The family wishes to express special gratitude to their father's loyal attendant, Lazara Lizarazo. Also, to Patricia de Varona, Christina Ramirez, and the rest of the staff at The Palace Royale, for their ongoing dedication to Ralph's well-being, while he was in their care. Even to the peaceful end of his 86 years, he loved life and was a joy to those who knew him. On Saturday, April 18th, a private Burial will take place at Woodlawn Park South Cemetery. A Celebration of Life service, will be held at 12 noon in the Sanctuary of Kendall United Methodist Church, 7600 SW 104th St., Miami. Visitation with the family and a light lunch will be provided following the service in the Fellowship Hall.
