Darrell Ray King was born on Sunday; August 4, 1918 in Dickens; Clay County, Iowa. He was the son of: Silas and Grace Bailey King. Darrell received his early education and graduated from the Dickens High School. In 1942, Darrell married Lurvene Darr from Ayshire, Iowa. Following their marriage, they rented land south of Dickens and then north of Everly before purchasing what remains the family farm north of Gillett Grove. He retired from farming in 1980. Darrell loved to fish as long as the fish was a Walleye. Many trips were made to Blackduck Lake and the Missouri River. In his early years a wintertime bowling league was a not so favored pastime, one that ended when he flung his ball and shoes into the Little Sioux River. From his early years till his last, cribbage was his favorite game. On April 15, 1979, Darrell married Eleanor Stoddard. Darrell Ray King, age 90, passed away on Tuesday; February 10, 2009, at the Longhouse Residence in Spencer; Clay County, Iowa. Those left to mourn his passing are: His wife: Eleanor of Spencer, Iowa. His two sons: Wayne (Louise) King and family of Oxnard; Ventura County, California and Wendell (Diane) King and family of rural Dickens, Iowa. His sister: Lois Gritten and his brother: Floyd King along with other relatives and a host of friends. Darrell was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife: Lurvene. Darrell found it ironic that he had out drank, out smoked and out lived most of his friends. May they rest in peace. Visitation will be from: 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday; February 13, 2009 at the funeral home. Funeral services will begin at: 10:00 a.m. on Saturday; February 14, 2009 at the First Congregational Church in Spencer; Clay County, Iowa with Pastor Thomas Van Tassell officiating. Interment will be in the Dickens Cemetery in Dickens, Iowa. | King, Darrell Ray (I23106)
