Topper was a lifelong resident of Essex. He was born on August 4, 1932 in Hartford. He attended the Essex Grammar School and then went onto Pratt High School where he graduated with the class of 1951. He attended the University of Connecticut, and was very proud to have served in the US Navy onboard the USS Lionfish for several years. He looked forward to the Essex Memorial Day Parade each year to proudly march with his comrades from other branches of the military. He was a member of the Essex Fire Engine Co. He was a member of the Essex Rotary Club for many years where he served as President and also served as "Bake Master" at the clubs annual shad bake. He owned and operated Mack's Florist in Essex until turning to a career of manufacturing specialty hand crafted items. He loved to be on the water with family and friends having been an avid sailor since childhood, racing locally built Lightening and Blue Jay Class sailboats. Topper leaves behind his three children and their spouses, Kathy and her husband, Cy, Libby of Chester, Tom, and his wife Shelley of Essex, and Jim and his wife Penny, also of Essex. He also leaves behind his long time companion Caroline Cutone of Essex, and her family. He was predeceased by his parents, Lewellyn and Dora Baroni Mack.
