Michael W. Millar passed away at his home in Juneau, Alaska on January 9, 2015, after battling esophageal cancer. Mike was surrounded by his beautiful wife Julia (aka St. Julie) and all four of his children.

Born in St. Paul, Minnesota to Webster and Carol Millar, Mike was raised in nearby Stillwater, Minnesota. In 1965, Mike and his first wife (Mary) moved to Alaska with their infant daughter (Cari) ? a place he would call home for the rest of his life. Upon retiring from the State of Alaska/DOTPF in 1987, he was able to focus full-time on his favorite activities including charter fishing, hunting and traveling.
Not known to sit still for any length of time, he was always on the go. All of his children will forever remember the early morning wake-up ritual ? the snapping on of the bedroom light and the booming voice announcing "DAYLIGHT IN THE SWAMP". There were always "things to do, places to go, people to see, and appointments to keep."
You always knew where you stood with Mike ? whether it was on his good side or his bad side and heaven help those unlucky enough to be on his bad side. He had a built in BS detector and didn't hesitate to call you on it. Mike always had a story or life lesson to pass on to anyone within earshot, whether they listened or not.
Count yourself lucky if you were ever skunked at cribbage, invited to the cabin, asked to go hunting or fishing, given advice, taught the correct way to do something, or coached by Mike. He was a treasure to many, but none more so than his family. He will be missed forever and a day.
Mike is survived by his wife Julia, daughters Cari (Bob) Roseboro, Becky (Rob) Conlon, Cindy (Bob) Stevenson, son Mike (Carrie) Millar, and step-daughter Karen Stein, grandchildren Katlyn (Roseboro) Duncan, Brandon and Zachery Roseboro; Evan, Jessica, Kennedy and Chase Conlon; Amanda and Brian Stevenson; Michael, Ethan and Alex Millar; step-grandsons Nicholas Stein and Jeremy Bard, great-grandson Colton Duncan, sister Carol Bankes, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends across Alaska, the lower 48 and Mexico.
Per Mike's request, there will be no services. His family will gather to spread his ashes at a later date.
