    • Alice L. Chappell, 80, of 246 Music Vale Road, Salem, died Monday at Harrington Court in Colchester.
      She was born July 22, 1925 in New London, the daughter of John H. and Christian Rae Buell.
      Mrs. Chappell attended Chapman Technical School and was the class valedictorian in 1943. While in school she had worked at Miss Prescott's Bake Shop and then at Vogt's Bakery. During the World War II she worked at Electric Boat in Groton and then was a clerical worker for Metropolitan Life Insurance in New London.
      She married Arnold M. Chappell Sr. at the Huntington Street Baptist Church in New London on Sept. 26, 1956.
      In addition to her husband Arnold, she is survived by a son, Arnold M. Chappell Jr., of Salem; a daughter, Christine B. Brooks, of Plainfield; a brother, Richard Buell, of Norwell, Mass.; and seven grandchildren.
      A graveside service will be held at noon on Friday at the Jordan Cemetery, Waterford. There are no calling hours.
