    Mrs. Smith was born in Connecticut and raised and attended school in Old Lyme. She attended college and graduated from Brown University, where she met husband Aubrey H.(Hubert) Smith. They were married in 1930 in Old Lyme. Shortly after they moved to West Lafayette, Indiana where husband Hubert taught Mathematics at Purdue University.
    Mrs. Smith enjoyed working in their beautiful yard and was an avid bird watcher, documenting her observations of wildlife over the year. She raised many flowers in her garden carrying on a tradition she learned from her father. She and her husband were also very active in activities with other Purdue couples and their local Presbyterian Church. The Smiths were also big supporters of Purdue sports and later in life, Doris never missed a televised game.
    The Smiths had no children but travelled often to Oregon to visit sister Leonie, Husband Walt, and their two boys, with whom they were very close. Both Doris and Hubert enjoyed the mountains, lakes and streams of the west and made several trips to Oregon including an excursion to Crater Lake National Park with their nephews and family.
    The Smiths lived in Florida 1/2 of the year for many years after retirement but later, after the trips became too much, settled back in West Lafayette where they spent the rest of their lives close to their community of friends associated with Purdue University.

    Doris married Aubrey Henderson Smith in 1930 in Old Lyme, Connecticut, USA. Aubrey was born on 3 Oct 1905 in Westchester Mountain, Nova Scotia, Canada; died on 11 Mar 1996 in West LaFayette, Indiana, USA; was buried in Tippecanoe Memory Gardens, West Lafayette, Tippecanoe County, Indiana, United States.     Mrs. Williams was born and raised in Connecticut and then attended Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1939.
    She worked in Washington, DC during WWII and then travelled by herself first to Colorado and then on to Oregon where she taught High School in John Day. She met her husband there and then moved to California for a short time, during which time her first son was born.
    She and her husband then moved back to Prineville, OR for the birth of her second son (husband transferred back) and then the family moved to Bend.
    Mrs. Williams returned to teaching in both Bend and Prineville and retired in the late 1960's where she was active in child daycare and Welcome Wagon during her retirement. She was a past member of the NEA and the OEA and held teaching certifications in Health and PE.
    Mrs. Williams enjoyed the outdoor beauty of Central Oregon and was an avid bird watcher and photographer. She spent hours observing and photographing birds and animals at the water pond at Lava River Caves, south of Bend. She also enjoyed travelling to the Malheur Wildlife Refuge near Burns and Osprey Point at Crane Prairie Reservoir. She chronicled her outings which included notes on rare species observed including the wolverine and Peregrine falcon. She was a member of the National Audubon Society.

    Beebe, Monroe
    Lyme - Monroe B. Beebe, of Lyme, died on Jan. 8, 2005, at the Mariner Health Care Center at Bride Brook in Niantic.
    He was born on April 20, 1920, in Old Lyme, the son of Victor Lloyd and Catherine Brewin Beebe.
    He was the widower of Marie Sperrazza Beebe.
    Mr. Beebe was a heavy equipment operator and mechanic and a member of the operating engineers for over 60 years. He was an inventor and held a U.S. patent.
    Mr. Beebe was a veteran of World War II, serving with the Army Air Corps. He was stationed in Africa and Italy. He was a member of the Caterpillar Club and a member of the 781st Bomb Squadron Association.
    He is survived by his sons, Jonathan Beebe, of Lyme, and Lee Beebe, of Las Vegas; his sister, Doris Smith, of W. LaFayette, Ind.; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
    He was predeceased by his sisters, Elyse Bogue and Leonie Williams.
    A memorial service will be held in the First Congregational Church of Lyme at a later date which will be announced. There are no calling hours.

    Notes:

    Walter was born in a mill town in Central California where his dad worked for Hudspeth Pine. Soon after the family was transferred to Prineville, Oregon where his dad ran the Hudspeth mill there until retirement. The family then moved to Bend.
    Walter attended kindergarten in Prineville before the move and then school in Bend, where he was active in Concert Band, Pep Band, Marching Band, High Q, Boy Scouts and Explorer Scouts. Walter then attended COCC and later Oregon State University. At OSU he was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity, majored in Chemistry, and was part of the award winning OSU marching band, playing Sousaphone.
    Walter always had a passion to see the country up close and took a job as a long haul truck driver based in Idaho, where he delivered refrigerated goods all over the United States. Walter missed being away from family and returned to Oregon and drove tanker truck for Lee and Eastes and then Arrow Transportation in Eugene, Oregon. He worked his way up at Arrow Transportation from tanker driver to dispatcher to eventually Terminal Manager and stayed with the company through many buy-outs and name changes. He was still working in bulk commodities as Dispatch Manager for Gresham Transfer at the time of his death.
    Walter enjoyed hiking, hunting, fishing and being outdoors in Oregon and explored many areas of Oregon during regular outings. He was an expert marksman and ethical sportsman, who would only take a game animal if it could be done with one shot. He also worked on conservation projects in Central Oregon during his time in Scouting, being invited to attend leadership camp for young men at Crescent Lake, OR.
    Walter always put family first and will be remembered for his gentle demeanor, generosity and quick wit. He was very proud to be an Uncle to his brother's step son and always enjoyed his sister-in-law's gourmet cooking - especially her Thanksgiving turkey with Pine Nut/Leek under-the-skin stuffing.

    Lee Banning Beebe, born Oct. 22, 1950, peacefully departed this life on Dec. 11, 2013, after a long and heroic battle with cancer. Lee was a master home builder, professional skier, musician and avid hockey player, but his greatest joy in life was his family.
    He was predeceased by his parents, Marie (Sperrazza) Beebe and Monroe Beebe, longtime residents of Old Lyme, Conn. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Mimi Beebe of Las Vegas, Nev., a real estate professional; son, Brandon Beebe, a film major, creative director, and event promoter; daughter, Sofia Lingos-Papaliodis, an attorney in Boston, Mass., married to George Papaliodis; brother, Jonathan Beebe of Bozrah, Conn.; his nephew, Joshua, married to Susan Beebe, and children, Samuel and William of Bozrah, Conn.; nephew, Jeremy married to Elizabeth Beebe and their daughter, Summer Beebe, of Ledyard, Conn.; and two wolves (other sons), Balto and Blaze.
    Lee attended Boston University before moving to Switzerland to ski the Alps. He subsequently moved to Park City, Utah, where he was instrumental in the downhill skiing industry and maintained his mountain home. He founded his company McBee Construction in Las Vegas, Nev., and built custom homes for many of the celebrities who reside in the area. He was a health and fitness aficionado, and until the end, you could find him on the ice playing hockey beside his son, Brandon, a collegiate hockey player.
    A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 23, 2013, at the Old Lyme Congregational Church, 2 Ferry Road, Old Lyme, with a reception to follow.
    In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Serenity Gathering, a project that Lee supported with his wife and son. May his memory be eternal.
