    Notes:

    Natalie Ayerst Carr, 102, of Virginia Beach, died May 20, 2005 at Windemere Nursing Home. Mrs. Carr was raised in Elkton, Md. and was a graduate of the University of Delaware. She retired from a career in social services in Petersburg, Va. and became an avid golfer in her beloved town of McKenney, Va. She is survived by her daughter, Natalie Carr Matthews of Wilson, N.C.; her son, Dr. Albert Carr and wife, Nancy of Augusta, Ga.; 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Carr was predeceased by her husband, Albert Carr; her son, Douglas Carr; and her daughter, Marietta Carr Glascock. She divided her living time between her three children until the year 2000 when she moved to Windemere. She was loved and cared for there by her dear companion, Ruth Disney and assistant, Ernestine Bell. We are forever indebted to you both. With fondness and admiration, we will treasure her memories and experiences over the past 102 years. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 5, 2005, at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in McKenney, Va. Memorial donations made be made to the American Cancer Society or to a charity of one's choice.

    Natalie Carr Matthews August 16, 1928 ? September 27, 2020 Natalie Carr Matthews, 92, passed away Sunday, September 27, 2020. She is survived by her daughter, Sue Harrell, and husband, Thomas, of Middlesex; sons, Thomas Matthews, IV, and wife, Susan, of Cleveland, Tennessee and Mark Matthews and wife, Linda of Wilson; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas ?TC? Matthews III; her parents, Albert and Natalie Ayerst Carr and her grandson, Jerimiah Carr Harrell. She graduated from College of William and Mary with a degree in sociology and started her career in social work in Petersburg, Virginia. Natalie accumulated forty-eight years of service as a social worker, the last thirty-six of which were in Wilson County. Natalie loved to play her piano and sing harmony in the choir at Westview Christian Church. Her yard was full of flowers, and she loved to watch the birds from her porch, especially hummingbirds. She was a gracious hostess who shared her cooking skills with family and friends. Natalie loved to travel to the beach, the mountains and beyond. She enjoyed playing cards, going to Shrine events, and lunching with the Wilson Woman?s Club. Due to COVID restrictions, there will be no family visitation and the funeral will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family would encourage contributions to the Hope Station/Westview House, PO Box 2164, Wilson, North Carolina 27894.

    Marietta Carr Glascock, 72, died October 15, 2004 in her home. Mrs. Glascock was a 1953 graduate of Westhampton College and was South Hampton Roads' first Reach to Recovery volunteer. Her successful catering business warmed the homes of many and delighted the palates of all who experienced her divine cuisine. Her wonderful mothering and grandparenting will be missed greatly by us all. She is survived by her two daughters, Mrs. Elia P. Fontecchio of Twenty Nine Palms, Calif., and Mary Todd Glascock and her husband, Lionel Charuau of Virginia Beach; her beloved grandsons, Henri Miles Charuau and Elia Ayerst Fontecchio. Other survivors include her mother, Natalie Ayerst Carr of Virginia Beach; her sister, Mrs. Thomas Cowgill Matthews of Wilson, N.C.; her brother, Dr. Albert Carr and his wife, Nancy of Augusta, Ga. Mrs. Glascock was predeceased by her daughter, Leslie Glascock Stetson; her son-in-law, Elia Paietta Fontecchio; her brother, Douglas Reed Carr; and her father, Albert Carr. A memorial service will be held Monday October 18, 2004 at 11 a.m. at St. Simon's Episcopal Church, 308 Sandbridge Road, Virginia Beach 23456, by the Rev. William Starkey. The parking lot for the church is located behind the church. Memorial donations may be made to the St. Simon's Episcopal Church or the Virginia Beach Rescue Squad, 740 Virginia Beach Blvd., Virginia Beach, Va. 23451.     Augusta, GA- Dr. Albert Ayerst Carr, beloved physician, husband, father and grandfather died Wednesday, July 18th, 2012 surrounded by his family.
    He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Nancy Lanford Carr; four children Lynn Davis (Mitch), Bert Carr (Tricia), David Carr, and Stephanie Woodward (Taylor), and grandchildren Lauren and Trey Carr; Chesley Lemons (Jason) and Doug Carr; Keenan, Victoria, Abby and Chai Davis; Nan and Reed Woodward. Also surviving are his sister Natalie Matthews, sisters and brothers-in-law: Bonnie and Tom McNeal, Gayle and Bud Hudnall and many nieces and nephews.
    Dr. Carr was born to Natalie Ayerst and Albert Carr in Richmond, Va on March 23, 1934. He grew up in McKenney, Va and graduated from Southside McKenney High School.
    Dr. Carr graduated from the University of Virginia and the University of Virginia School of Medicine. Post graduate training took place at the University of Virginia, and three years in the Endocrine section of the Heart Institute at the National Institute of Health in Maryland. He returned to the University of Virigina to be chief resident of medicine. Following his residency program, he moved to Omaha, Nebraska to practice in the Department of Medicine at the University of Nebaska School of Medicine. In 1967, he and his young family moved to Augusta where he was chief of the Hypertension Section of the Department of Medicine at the Medical College of Georgia. In 1995, he retired from MCG and went into the private practice of medicine where he also continued his cardiovascular research.
    He was a member of the Raven Society and Sigma Phi Epsilon at the University of Virginia and a member of Alpha Omega Alpha at the University of Virginia School of Medicine; Chief of Staff of Trinity Hospital; past president of the Richmond County Medical Society, past president of the Georgia Society of Internal Medicine. He received the Paul Harris Award. He served many years as a delegate to the Medical Association of Georgia. He was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church where he served as a deacon. He was a member of Augusta Country Club.
    Friends may call at the residence on Thursday from 5pm to 8pm. A memorial service will be held at Covenant Presbyterian Church at 2pm on Friday, July 20th. Memorials may be made to Covenant's Building Fund.
