    Leland Harding Reynolds, 93, of Lyme died peacefully at his home on Tuesday (May 10, 2005) surrounded by family. He was born on December 13, 1911 in a small apartment located in the ell of the carriage business which was founded by his grandfather in the center of the village of Hamburg, CT. He was proud to have lived his whole life there in the heart of the village and to have lived to see his children and grandchildren and great-grandchildren settle in Lyme. He was predeceased by his wife, Laura in 1986 after 45 years of marriage. He was a charter member and past chief of the Lyme Fire Company and founder and life member of the Hamburg Cove Yacht Club. He was a 50 year member of the Pythagorus Lodge of Masons in Old Lyme and was, at the time of his death, the oldest member of the Lyme-Old Lyme Chamber of Commerce. He was active in many town committees during his life. Mr. Reynolds was proprietor of Reynolds' Garage and Marine, Inc. from 1940 until he retired in 1976, after which time he took on Rover, Land-Rover and Peugeot dealerships. He was a life-long yachtsman, cruising the water of Long Island Sound and beyond. He nurtured that love of boating and the water in all his children and grandchildren. His last few years were spent enjoying the daily flow of life on his beloved Hamburg Cove, with regular visits from his grandchildren, family and friends. He is survived by his son, Gary H. Reynolds and daughter, Carleen R. Gerber and their spouses, Marilynn Reynolds and Don Gerber; grandchildren, L. Thomas Reynolds, G. Hayden Reynolds, Kathryn Wayland, Lauren Paterson, Allison Hine and Emily Gerber; and seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Doris Jewett of Lyme and Donna Speirs of Old Lyme. He was predeceased by a sister, Carol Dunham. A memorial service in celebration of his life will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 14, at the First Congregational Church of Lyme in Hamburg, with a reception in his honor to follow at the Lyme Fire Dept., Route 156, Hamburg. People are welcome to attend either or both events. Donations may be made in his memory to the North Lyme Cemetery Association, c/o Ken Plimpton, 26 Sterling City Rd., Lyme, CT 06371 or a charity of the donor's choice.

    Doris "Doad" Reynolds Jewett, of Lyme died on December 10, 2013, in Middletown.
    She was born on April 11, 1913, in Lyme, the daughter of Donald and Katherine Reynolds.
    Doad taught school in Lyme until her marriage to Charles S. Jewett in 1939. She lived nearly all her life in the house where she was born on Hamburg Cove. In 1996 she wrote a book for her grandchildren called "Things Remembered" about her adventures growing up there. She was happiest outside sailing, kayaking, skiing, biking and working in her garden. She also built furniture, painted, knit, e-mailed her family and could fix anything. Her daughters always said that she was a hard act to follow.
    Doad is survived by her daughters Pat Jewett Andrews and her husband Andy of Phippsburg, ME; and Lynn Reynolds Jewett of Saco, ME; her grandchildren Meghan R. Longacre and her husband Josh and Courtney R. Adams and her husband Doug, all of Plainfield, NH; Gillian H. Andrews of Salem, MA; Thayer J. Andrews and his wife Heather of San Francisco; her great grandchildren Griffin, Ella, Chase, Sophie and Ben; her sister Donna R. Speirs of Old Lyme; her friend and caregiver Rose Anne Rand of Hadlyme.
    The family hasn't finalized plans for a memorial service at this time. Donations in her memory may be made to the Lyme Public Library, 482 Hamburg Rd., Lyme, CT 06371, or to the Lyme Ambulance Association, PO Box 911, Hadlyme, CT 06731.

    Tailgate wedding: 2 Syracuse football fans tie the knot in parking lot before game
    Syracuse, N.Y. ? What started as a running joke between friends became reality on Saturday.
    Kristine Engler and Sean Heitman donned matching Syracuse "Bride" and "Groom" jerseys and tied the knot under an orange tent in front of 75 of their closest tailgating companions.
    Rev. Rick Germano officiated the ceremony in fitting uniform and led the couple through their vows after a television timeout.
    Bud Light flowed. Sandwiches were eaten. Even SU athletic director Mark Coyle swung down to congratulate the diehard Orange fans.
    "Somebody made a joke about us having a wedding at a tailgate," Heitman said, "and the more we talked about it, the more it made sense."
    Heitman and Engler met in early 2012 when Engler, a radiation therapist, began treating Heitman's mother. They quickly hit it off and became friends. Engler, whose family has had season tickets since she was a child, invited Heitman into her tailgating group, the "Hard-Nosed Fans."
    A Connecticut native, Heitman moved to Syracuse about 15 years ago and has come a long way since wearing a UConn shirt to his first SU game in the early 2000s.
    About a year after he met Engler, Heitman realized how much she meant to him following a motorcycle accident.
    He was coming around a turn on a back road at the back of the pack when he saw bikes and bodies piled up in the street.
    "I had two choices: go down in the road or go down in the dirt," Heitman said. "I chose the dirt."
    Heitman escaped the incident uninjured, and two-and-a-half years later, couldn't be more grateful for it.
    "It scared me pretty good and it made me realize how much we had together," he said.
    As the ceremony wrapped up Saturday morning, a scalper walked through the lot. "Tickets," he shouted. "Who's selling tickets?"
    The event was everything one would expect a tailgate wedding to be. The reception begins at 12:30 p.m. in Section 332.
