    Burton B. Doolittle, 91, of Val Mar Drive, Ft. Myers, FL and former Middletown resident, husband of Marion (Schneider) Doolittle and the late Dorothy (Deane) Doolittle, died at Middlesex Convalescent Center in Middletown, Wednesday (Aug. 19, 1998). Born in Middletown, he was the son of the late Burton B. and Adelaide (Brockway) Doolittle. He attended Middletown schools, graduating from Middletown High School in 1924 and Wesleyan University in 1929 with Honors and Distinction in Physics. After graduation he joined his father in the operation of Doolittle Funeral Service, retiring in 1972 after 43 years. He was a former secretary-treasurer of the National Selected Morticians and a past president of the Connecticut Funeral Directors Assn. He was a past president of the Middletown Scientific Assn., the University Club and the Middletown Lions Club; was a former director and treasurer of the Middletown Rotary Club; and was director and chairman of the Executive Committee of the Middletown National Bank and served on the Advisory Board and the executive committee of the Middletown Branch of the Hartford National Bank and Trust Co. He was a director emeritus, served on the executive committee and was chairman of the building committee responsible for the construction of the South Wing of the Middlesex Hospital. He was a former member of the Finance Committee of the District Nurse Assn; served on the Board of Directors of the Middletown Chamber of Commerce and was a trustee and chairman of the Building & Grounds Committee of St. Luke's Home. His chief hobby was cinematography and he produced a number of public relations films for local organizations, including the Boy's Scouts, Girl Scouts, Middlesex Hospital Auxillary and the District Nurse Assn. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Pine Grove Cemetery Assn. and the Old Middletown Burying Ground Assn. He had made his home in Ft. Myers, FL since 1972 where he was a member of the Ft. Myers Congregational United Church of Christ. Besides his wife he leaves two sons, John D. Doolittle of Cromwell and Richard A. Doolittle of Ballwin, MO; a daughter, Mrs. John P. (Barbara) Rasch of Cromwell; 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Burton E. Doolittle. Funeral services will be at the Doolittle Funeral Home, 14 Old Church St., on Tuesday, (Aug. 24), 10 a.m. The Rev. John Hall, senior minister of the First Church of Christ, Congregational, will officiate and interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the Doolittle Funeral Home, 14 Old Church St., Monday from 6-8 p.m.

    Burton married Dorothy Boudway Deane in 1931 in Northampton, Massachusetts, USA.     John David Doolittle, 78, of Middletown and Hobe Sound, FL, beloved husband of Patricia (Dortch) Doolittle for fifty-four years, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on January 29th, 2014 in Florida.
    Born in Middletown, he was the son of the late Burton and Dorothy (Deane) Doolittle.
    John graduated Avon Old Farms Prep School in 1954, Babson College, Wellesley, MA in 1957 and New England Institute in Boston, MA in 1958.
    He joined the funeral business in 1959 with his father as third generation of Doolittle Funeral Home and went on to open Cromwell Funeral Home in 1969. He retired in 1996 as his son entered as fourth generation. J
    John was a lifelong resident of Middletown and Cromwell spending winters in Florida after retiring.
    He was a member of Stuart Congregational Church in Stuart, FL and First Congregational Church in Middletown where he served as a former Deacon and Trustee.
    He was also a former member of the Cromwell Lions Club, member and past president of the Middletown Exchange Club and former member of the Board of Trustees of City Savings Bank, now Citizens Bank.
    He served on the Board of Long Rivers Council, BSA, the Board of Directors for Pine Grove Cemetery, was a lifetime member of Cromwell Historical Society, a Corporator of Middlesex Hospital and active in the United Way and many other charities.
    John spent much of his free time following the New York Yankees with a vengeance. He also enjoyed traveling, golfing, playing cards, had a love for fireworks and spending time with his family.
    John touched so many people throughout his life. He was always willing to help anyone, whether he knew them or not and had an unending supply of hugs for everyone. He was a good friend to people, a loving husband and father, and a very involved grandfather. John was a wonderful, generous and kind man who will be truly missed by those he touched.
    Along with his wife, he is survived by his son, Jay B. Doolittle and his wife, Donna of Middletown; two daughters, Suzanne Beauchemin of Cromwell and Cynthia L. Schloss and her husband, David of Cromwell; a sister, Barbara Rasch and her husband, John of North Carolina; seven grandchildren, Jessica Doolittle and her fiancé, Jerry Parris, Jonathan Doolittle and his wife, Lindsey, Nikole Doolittle, Alexa and David Beauchemin, and Lily and Tyler Schloss; two great grandchildren, Gracie and Maddelena Doolittle; several nieces and nephews and his card buddies, golf buddies and many friends.
    Besides his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Burton and Richard Doolittle.
    Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 4th at 10:00 am at Doolittle Funeral Home, 14 Old Church Street, Middletown.
    Interment will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery.
    Family and friends may call on Monday evening from 5:00 to 8:00pm.

    Mrs. Barbara D. Rasch, 81, of Burlington passed away at Peak Resources ? Alamance on Tuesday, August 21, 2018.
    A native of Middletown, CT, she was the wife of John Rasch, who survives and the daughter of Burton Doolittle and Dorothy Deane Doolittle, both deceased. Barbara was a former high school and preschool teacher. She enjoyed canoeing, traveling, collecting shells on Sanibel Island and crystal goblets that are over 150 years old. One of her great loves was all the pugs they had over the years. Mrs. Rasch was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Burlington where she was very active with the furniture ministry and treasurer of the Women?s Group.
    In addition to her husband of the home, survivors include two sons, Roger Steinkamp and wife Leslie of Springfield, VA and Robert Steinkamp of Ithaca, NY; two grandsons, Kevin Steinkamp and wife Asuka and Adam Steinkamp; granddaughter, Heather Griffith and husband Matthew; and great-grandson, Colton Griffith. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Burton, John and Richard Doolittle.
    A Celebration of Life service will be conducted at the First Presbyterian Church of Burlington on Sunday, August 26, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. by Dr. Ronald L. Shive. A reception will follow the service at the church.
    Barbara had a love for the furniture ministry at their church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Furniture Ministry at the First Presbyterian Church, 508 West Davis Street, Burlington, NC 27215.

    Richard A. Doolittle, of Wiese Albert Road, Higganum, died Saturday. He was 57.
    He was born in Middletown and had lived in Ballwin, Mo., for the last 21 years. He retired to Connecticut last summer.
    He had been employed as vice president of human resources for Busch Entertainment in St. Louis for 18 years before his retirement. He served in the U.S. Army from 1967 to 1969 at the Pentagon in the Office of the Congressional Liaison. He was a member of the Paperweight Collectors of America.
    He is survived by his wife, Susanne Norton Doolittle; two daughters, Allison L. Doolittle of Savannah, Ga., and Lynn D. Hollingsworth of Athens, Ga.; a brother, John D. Doolittle of Cromwell; and a sister, Barbara D. Rasch of Cromwell.
    Funeral services will be held at Doolittle Funeral Home, 14 Old Church St., Wednesday at 10 a.m. Burial will be private.
    Calling hours are tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.
    Donations may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
